The role is suitable for both Males and Females with a passion for working with young people across Shropshire in Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Telford. There are positions available to be based in either Shrewsbury, Ludlow or Telford.
Crossbar are seeking to appoint Mentors to support with our Alternative Provision Programme. Mentors will be required to support with the delivery of English, Maths, Preparation for Adulthood, SEMH, pastoral and mentoring support to young people with special education needs aged 7 - 25 on a 1:1 or small group basis.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to nurture and support the young person whilst challenging them to achieve. Previous experience in supporting young people in Education with SEN and/or learning difficulties on a one-to-one basis in a teaching or mentoring capacity is preferred for this role.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Effectively engage with young participants and develop trust-based, intensive relationships to provide an appropriate level of support.
- Apply a mix of assessment quality holistic support, challenge and mentoring techniques to the relationship with the young person.
- Support the young person in actively addressing barriers to education or work, setting clear goals, short and medium term actions consistent with accessing employment, training or education.
- Regularly review progress and challenges with each young person.
- Manage Health and Safety and Data Protection to legal standards.
- Maintain appropriate caseloads reflecting a young person’s varied levels of need, in order to ensure a flexible, holistic support service addressing employability, education and wider personal support barriers.
- Explore and access existing support to address the identified support needs of individual young people.
- Maintain an up to date record of reports, individual action planning and support provided.
- Transport learners to and from their education centre.
As a Mentor with CAP you will be making a real difference to young people across Shropshire by supporting them back into mainstream education, aiding transition into further education and or employment.
