Trainee Fieldwork Operative

Soiltechnics are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join one of the UK’s leading consultancies, specialising in ground investigations and structural assessments.
As a Trainee Fieldwork Operative, you will be in a hands-on, site-based role supporting the investigation teams. You’ll gain practical experience across a wide range of projects throughout the UK, supporting essential site and building investigation activities and working alongside experienced engineers and other field specialist disciplines.
About Soiltechnics
Soiltechnics is a UK‑based consultancy specialising in geoenvironmental, geotechnical and building fabric investigations. Projects are undertaken nationally across all major economic sectors. The investigations provide clients and their design team a clear understanding of the risks associated with development, enabling safe and sustainable development.
What You’ll Be Doing

Undertaking excavations to assist with site investigations

Undertaking concrete breakouts, concrete drilling and diamond coring to assist with building fabric investigations

Working alongside engineers and drilling teams on a variety of construction, industrial, commercial and retail sites

Recording site data and assisting with basic documentation

Preparing and maintaining equipment

Following strict health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
Our Fieldwork Team supports both Ground Investigation and Structural Fabric operations. Projects vary from rural greenfield sites to complex demolition projects in central London. The role may involve working in confined spaces or at height (e.g. scaffolding or scissor lifts), so a strong commitment to safety is essential.
How you’ll work

Primarily site based (approximately 90%)

Time spent in the Northampton office for equipment preparation, logistics, maintenance and training.

Travel to sites across the UK (company vehicles provided)

You’ll need the following:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade 4 or above), including Maths and English.

A-Level, Level 3 BTEC or equivalent qualification (or working toward)

Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)

UK Driving Licence
With the exception of a driving licence don’t worry if your qualifications don’t quite match – there’s flexibility, and we’re happy to discuss opportunities. Any relevant work experience, interests or extra qualifications are welcome.
