Job Description
We are currently seeking a dedicated and motivated Shipping Controller to join our expanding Shipping Team. Reporting directly to the Shipping and Transport Manager, you will work closely with the wider Shipping and Warehouse teams to ensure daily operational tasks, shipping deadlines and departmental KPIs are consistently achieved.
This is a varied and hands-on role combining shipping administration, courier processing, documentation, parcel and pallet preparation, labelling and general operational support. The ideal candidate will have some previous experience within shipping, logistics, distribution or a similar environment and will be highly organised, accurate and keen to develop their knowledge further. Previous international shipping or customs experience would be beneficial; however, full training will be provided for the right candidate.
Flexibility is essential, as the role requires the ability to work to tight deadlines, manage changing priorities and support the wider operation when required.
This is a fully on-site position.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Responsibilities
Shipping & Documentation
· Process loose parcel and palletised shipments using approved courier and freight services, including DHL, FedEx, Palletline and Dachser.
· Ensure shipments are processed accurately using the correct delivery addresses, contact details, service levels, Incoterms, labels and supporting documentation.
· Prepare shipping documentation for UK, Northern Ireland, EU and international consignments, including Delivery Notes, Packing Lists and Commercial Invoices.
· Support the preparation of customs documentation and ensure information supplied for international shipments is complete and accurate.
· Ensure all required shipping documentation is attached and completed before consignments leave the facility.
· Arrange return shipments when required.
Carrier Liaison & Shipping Support
· Obtain shipping quotations for loose and palletised consignments across approved courier and freight providers when required.
· Maintain accurate shipping records, including courier manifests and daily operational documentation.
Escalate shipment issues or exceptions to the Shipping and Transport Manager where required
Packing, Palletising & Warehouse Support
· Label all parcels and consignments leaving the facility, ensuring labels and shipment details are accurate.
· Assist with packing and palletising orders to meet daily dispatch requirements.
· Safely move, organise and stage products and shipments ready for processing or collection.
· Handle large and heavy boxes as part of daily shipping activities.
· Verify addresses, labels and shipment information prior to dispatch.
· Work closely with Warehouse colleagues to ensure orders are prepared and dispatched within required deadlines.
· Support general Shipping and Warehouse operational tasks when required.
· Use warehouse equipment where required following appropriate training.
· Double checking work when required.
Company Van Operations
· Assist with planning and routing company van deliveries and collections when required.
· Complete vehicle checks when required.
· Support the wider company van operation during periods of absence or increased operational demand.
Communication & Administration
· Professionally handle incoming calls and emails relating to shipping, couriers and deliveries.
· Liaise with internal departments to ensure shipments are planned and processed correctly.
· Maintain accurate daily shipping records and documentation.
· Communicate clearly with colleagues regarding deadlines, issues and operational priorities.
Performance & Targets
· Prioritise workload effectively to achieve daily and weekly shipping deadlines.
· Maintain a high level of accuracy when processing, labelling and preparing shipments.
· Work towards departmental KPIs relating to shipping accuracy, quality and productivity.
· Take responsibility for learning and developing knowledge across different areas of the Shipping Department.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve shipping efficiency, accuracy and service levels.
Requirements
· Ideally 1–2 years' experience within shipping, logistics, distribution, warehousing or a similar operational environment.
· Previous experience processing courier or international shipments would be advantageous.
· Basic knowledge of international shipping, customs documentation or Incoterms (advantageous but is not essential).
· Experience liaising with courier or freight companies (advantageous but is not essential).
· Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly OrderWise (advantageous but is not essential).
· Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a methodical approach to work.
· Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.
· Comfortable working in a hands-on operational environment and carrying out regular physical tasks, including moving and handling large boxes and palletising shipments.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
· A positive and collaborative approach to teamwork.
· A willingness to learn and develop within the role and a genuine desire to contribute to and grow with a successful, expanding business.

Salary: £28,500.00 per annum (Depending on experience)
