You'll join our friendly team in an open-plan office designed for a collaborative mindset. With an on-site free gym and regular team socials, we make sure that everyone's work/life balance is healthy.
MWA is a commercially focused accountancy and advisory practice working with ambitious, founder-led businesses across the UK.
We don't just produce numbers — we help clients understand them, act on them, and grow from them. Our focus is management reporting, financial clarity and strategic insight, not just year-end compliance.
We work with founders running businesses from £250k to £5m+ in sectors including ecommerce, hospitality, property and content creation. They're ambitious, commercially-minded and often time-poor. Our job is to make sure they always know where they stand and what to do next, by translating their numbers clearly, calmly and with genuine commercial intelligence.
We're in the middle of something genuinely interesting: building an AI-assisted finance operation from the ground up. We're not there yet — but we're investing in it seriously, and the right person will help shape how it develops.
We're now looking for a Management Accountant to join our team. You might currently be a Management Accountant, Group Accountant, Finance Analyst or Reporting Accountant working across a group of companies or a portfolio of investments — practice background is not required.
The Role
This is not a standard practice accounts position.
You'll be preparing management accounts across a portfolio of businesses, making sure clients get the financial clarity we promise, from day one.
If you've been the finance person reporting into a board, an investment director, or across a group of trading businesses — translating the numbers into something a non-finance person can act on — this will feel familiar.
When a new client joins MWA, they receive our 90 Days to Financial Clarity guarantee. You'll have a part in making sure that happens — getting to grips with the books, coordinating across the team, and ensuring clients leave onboarding with clean, current and commercially useful financial information.
Beyond onboarding, you'll be an important part of ongoing management reporting — helping make sure clients have the information they need to make informed decisions.
Why This Role
- You'll be part of building something: a modern, AI-assisted finance operation at a firm that's ahead of the curve
- You'll work with interesting, commercially ambitious businesses — not corporate finance or low-value compliance work
- Plenty of opportunity to grow into a more senior role
What You'll Be Doing
- Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts across a portfolio of businesses
- Not just exporting Xero reports, but bespoke management information with business-specific KPIs, figures and graphs
- You'll have direct contact with the businesses you report on — this isn't a back-office-only role, but it's also not a sales or relationship-management position (the potential is there if you want it)
- Taking a role in new client onboarding within the 90-day guarantee
- Identifying trends, anomalies and opportunities within the numbers
- Supporting forecasts and basic scenario analysis
- Getting up to speed with new software when businesses bring unfamiliar systems
- Helping improve reporting processes and consistency across the team
- Assisting with Xero bookkeeping if required
Growth Opportunities
No pressure, but if you want to ...
- Take full control and ownership of your portfolio
- Take ownership of new client onboarding within the 90-day guarantee
- Present and discuss management accounts in plain, commercially useful language with clients
- Work alongside MWA's senior team with a clear path toward deeper advisory responsibility as you and the firm grow
- A path toward client-facing advisory conversations as you grow — no pressure to go there if preparing and analysing numbers is what you do best
About You
- Qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience — ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent. What matters more than the syllabus is a track record of producing management accounts people actually rely on
- Experience preparing management accounts or investment reporting across multiple entities, sites, brands or portfolio companies — whether that's from practice, a group finance function, or reporting into a PE/VC investor
- Organised, reliable and someone who takes ownership and follows through
- Commercially aware — you can spot when a conversation might open a door to additional services a client may need
- You take ownership. If something's not right, you sort it. You don't wait to be told
- You're curious about how businesses work, not just how their accounts are structured. You're the kind of person who spots something in the numbers and picks up the phone
- Comfortable with technology and open to learning new tools — we're building a more automated, AI-assisted way of working and we'd like you to be part of that
