The role:
An exciting, fixed-term opportunity has arisen for a registered Band 6 Healthcare Chaplain to join our busy spiritual care team at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
This unique 22-month post backfills an experienced colleague to lead the Staff Safe Spaces Project.
You will work collaboratively with the GRI spiritual care team to deliver robust, high-quality spiritual care while supporting the long-term development of the service across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Given the fast-paced and demanding nature of the GRI site, we are seeking an adaptable professional who can deliver excellent spiritual/religious care, bereavement support, and staff care.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Shift pattern for this post are Monday & Friday’s & occasional midweek & weekend on call
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Key responsibilities:
- Build strong professional relationships and respond to a high level of referrals from patients, families, carers, and staff.
- Apply up-to-date knowledge of NHS Scotland guidelines, including the 2024 Scottish Government Spiritual Care Framework and the 2026 National Service Specification.
- Adhere strictly to the CPCPC Chaplaincy Code of Conduct.
- Participate in the NHSGGC on-call rota, responding to diverse, multi-faith community needs across all hospital sites

Respond to all appropriate referrals and requests for spiritual care within a reasonable time, i.e. 24hrs for urgent and 48hrs if not urgent and confirm a referral is appropriate before acting / responding i.e. when on-call covering the whole health board alone, respond to urgent-only referrals and triage appropriately, including handing over information to fellow chaplains on other sites when necessary following on-call SC support.

Develop and promote good relations with all local faith communities and other relevant services to ensure inclusive partnership when developing and delivering spiritual care and assist and advise them in caring for members of their own communities while in the care of NHSGGC.

Provide spiritual care and bereavement support within the designated service location and across other service locations when required.

Design / facilitate communal events with colleagues for Time to Remember events and celebrations and in response to and via requests for appropriate support that may occur following an unforeseen major incident event and other situations that may occur on site/s i.e. a staff or patient death and/or baby blessings when on-call for other sites.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Registration: Professional registration (or working towards registration) with the Council of Professional Chaplains & Pastoral Carers (CPCPC, formerly UKBHC)
Education: Post-graduate professional education (preferably a PG Cert in Healthcare Chaplaincy).
Experience: Experience in a healthcare setting, with sign-off as safe and fit to practise.
