Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Remedial Engineer to join our growing team, delivering high-quality fire compliance and passive fire protection remedial works across commercial, residential, and public-sector properties.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical expertise with site supervision responsibilities. You will lead Assistant Engineers on site, oversee the safe and efficient delivery of remedial works, and ensure all projects are completed in accordance with current fire safety legislation, manufacturer guidance, and industry best practice. Acting as the primary site representative, you will maintain strong client relationships while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver remedial works relating to fire dampers, compartmentation, and associated passive fire protection systems.
- Review fire compliance surveys, inspection reports, and remedial schedules to plan works effectively.
- Organise labour, materials, tools, access equipment, and site logistics to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Carry out hands-on repairs, replacements, and compliance upgrades to passive fire protection systems.
- Allocate work, mentor, and supervise Assistant Engineers, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required standard.
- Inspect completed works to ensure compliance with specifications, manufacturer instructions, and relevant fire safety regulations.
- Identify additional defects, access issues, and compliance concerns, escalating where necessary.
- Complete detailed reports, photographic records, and digital job documentation accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Liaise professionally with clients, building managers, contractors, and internal compliance teams throughout each project.
- Deliver toolbox talks, daily site briefings, and promote a positive health and safety culture.
- Ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, vehicle stock, and materials.
- Participate in out-of-hours call-out arrangements where required.
QualificationsEssential
- Proven experience carrying out fire remedial or passive fire protection works.
- Previous experience in a lead, supervisory, or mentoring role.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- NVQ in Passive Fire Protection, Carpentry, Joinery, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Fire damper and/or passive fire remedial training.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme).
- IPAF and/or PASMA certification.
- Asbestos Awareness certification.
- Confined Space training.
- First Aid at Work qualification.

- Strong technical knowledge of passive fire protection systems, including fire dampers, compartmentation, and associated remedial works.
- Ability to interpret technical survey reports, specifications, and compliance documentation.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate site teams.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate labour, materials, and site activities effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, compliant workmanship.
- Sound understanding of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional client-facing approach.
- Competence in using mobile devices and digital reporting systems to produce accurate job records.
- Ability to make informed decisions on site, solve problems efficiently, and manage changing priorities.
