Main Purpose of Job
As an HR Consultant, you will support a portfolio of clients, providing practical, commercially focused HR and employment law advice across a broad range of people matters. You will build strong relationships with clients, develop a thorough understanding of their businesses and provide proactive support that helps them manage their people effectively.
The role combines HR consultancy with client relationship management, requiring regular client contact both remotely and on-site. You will act as a trusted adviser, delivering high-quality HR support while ensuring clients receive maximum value from our services. You will take ownership of developing strong, long-term client relationships, ensuring clients receive maximum value from our services. By understanding client challenges and future plans, you will identify opportunities to provide additional support, projects, training and consultancy solutions that help clients achieve their objectives.
The role requires sound judgement, excellent communication skills, commercial awareness and the ability to work in a fast-paced consultancy environment while providing clear, practical, legally compliant and commercially focused HR guidance.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, pragmatic HR and employment law advice across a broad range of employee relations and people management matters affecting SME clients.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with designated clients, developing a thorough understanding of their businesses, workforce challenges and objectives.
- Manage employee relations casework including disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, performance management, absence management, flexible working requests and appeals.
- Support clients with organisational change activities including consultations, restructures and redundancy processes.
- Attend client sites to support meetings, investigations, hearings, consultations, manager coaching and HR projects.
- Draft and review contracts of employment, handbooks, HR policies, letters, reports and other HR documentation.
- Deliver workshops and briefing sessions where required.
- Conduct regular client review meetings and site visits to strengthen relationships and identify emerging needs.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of opportunities within existing client accounts by understanding client needs, identifying gaps and working with colleagues to provide appropriate solutions.
- Proactively identify opportunities to expand and strengthen client relationships through additional consultancy support, retained services, training programmes and project work where these meet genuine client needs.
- Promote the HPC brand through networking, relationship building and representing the business at events.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
- CIPD Level 5 qualified or working towards.
- Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
- Experience managing employee relations casework.
- Ability to build strong client relationships.
- Commercial awareness and a client-focused approach.
- Full driving licence and ability to travel across the North West.
Desirable:
- Experience working within an HR consultancy environment.
- Experience supporting SMEs.

Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
