Content Creator and Presenter
Location: Ramsgate, Kent
Full-time, on-site role
About Surface Scan
Surface Scan provides 3D scanning, 3D printing, product design and engineering services for clients including Formula 1 teams, the NHS, Gatwick Airport and the Natural History Museum.
The projects we work on are varied and genuinely interesting. One day, our engineers may be scanning a jet engine. The next, we may be recreating an obsolete component that is no longer available anywhere in the world or manufacturing something that has never been made before.
However, very little of this work currently makes it online.
We are looking for someone to change that.
This is our first dedicated content role, so you will have the opportunity to build our content approach from the ground up. You will take ownership of the entire process, including ideas, planning, filming, presenting, editing, publishing, community engagement and growth.
You do not need previous experience in 3D printing, 3D scanning, CAD or engineering. We can teach you about our services and technology. What we need is someone who understands how to create engaging content and has a genuine interest in engineering, manufacturing and how things work.
The role
You will be responsible for creating a regular stream of content across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and most other platforms that support our wider objectives.
Some content will be educational. Some will be entertaining. Some will be designed to reach a wide audience, while other content will demonstrate our technical capabilities to engineers, designers and procurement teams.
You will need to understand the purpose of each piece of content and how to adapt it for the platform and audience.
This is also an on-camera role. You will regularly present videos, explain projects, interview members of the team and guide viewers through what is happening.
You will not need to appear in every piece of content, but over time, you will become one of the recognisable faces associated with Surface Scan. You therefore need to feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera.
What you will be doing
Developing ideas
You will spend time in our workshop, speak to the team and identify projects, processes and technology that could become interesting content.
We want someone who can look around the workshop and quickly see opportunities for videos, series and stories.
You will plan a varied content schedule and decide which formats are most suitable for each platform.
Filming
Most filming will take place at our workshop in Ramsgate.
There will also be occasional travel to customer sites to film our engineers working on location. This could include scanning a factory, bridge, heritage building, vehicle, machine or specialist engineering component.
Some projects may involve longer journeys or an occasional overnight stay, but travel will not be a frequent part of the role.
Presenting
You will regularly appear on camera to introduce projects, explain what is happening, interview our engineers and make technical subjects interesting and easy to understand.
You do not need formal presenting experience, but you must be natural, engaging and comfortable speaking on camera.
Editing and publishing
You will edit the majority of the content yourself.
For larger or more specialist projects, we may use external support, but you will be responsible for the day-to-day content output.
We want to publish consistently and test a wide range of ideas and formats. You should be comfortable producing content regularly, reviewing the results and adjusting your approach quickly.
Managing comments and messages
You will manage comments, direct messages and public conversations across our social platforms.
You will represent Surface Scan online, so responses must be helpful, professional and consistent with the company’s tone.
Coordinating content across the business
A significant part of the role will involve making sure content opportunities are identified and organised before they are missed.
You will work with the wider team to:
- Identify customer projects that would make strong content
- Obtain permission from customers before filming or sharing their projects
- Arrange filming within our production schedule
- Coordinate with the print room when parts or samples are needed for content
- Interview our engineers and turn their knowledge into useful, accessible videos
- Speak to customers about the background to their projects
- Plan content around new services, equipment and company announcements
- Ensure content is ready to support launches at the right time
These customer conversations will be focused on understanding and presenting their projects. This is not a sales or customer-support role.
Monitoring growth
You will track performance across each platform and report on what is working.
Our current audiences are relatively small, and a key part of the role is to achieve consistent, measurable growth.
You will need to understand why particular content performs well, identify patterns and use that information to guide future decisions.
Shaping the content strategy
You will work closely with the Head of Marketing and the Founder on the overall direction of Surface Scan’s content.
You will then take responsibility for turning that direction into a practical content plan, including what we create, when we publish it, which platforms we use and how we develop successful ideas into ongoing series.
About you
You are genuinely interested in content creation and regularly notice opportunities that other people miss.
You may already create content for yourself, another business, a client or a personal project. You understand why one video holds someone’s attention while another does not.
You are proactive and comfortable taking responsibility. You will not always be given a detailed brief, so you need to be able to identify what should happen next and organise the people or resources required to make it happen.
You are comfortable speaking to different people, including engineers, customers and online audiences.
You also understand that consistent output matters. You would rather produce, test and learn from several pieces of content than spend weeks trying to perfect one video.
Most importantly, you are comfortable being on camera and becoming a recognisable part of the Surface Scan brand.
You do not need previous experience in 3D printing, 3D scanning, CAD or engineering. However, you must have a genuine interest in how things work and be enthusiastic about learning more about engineering, manufacturing and the 3D technology industry.
You should be naturally curious. When you see an unfamiliar machine, process or product, you should want to understand what it does, how it works and why it matters.
We are looking for a content specialist who can become knowledgeable and enthusiastic about our industry, rather than an engineer who happens to create content.
Essential requirements
You will need:
- Confidence presenting and speaking on camera
- Strong video-editing skills
- Experience filming with cameras and mobile phones
- A practical understanding of audio, lighting and composition
- A good understanding of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn
- The ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- A genuine interest in engineering, manufacturing and how things work
- A full UK driving licence
- A willingness to travel occasionally, including the possibility of overnight stays
- The ability to work on-site with us in Ramsgate
Useful but not essential
It would be helpful if you also have experience in:
- Growing a social media channel or account
- Motion graphics
- Thumbnail design
- Copywriting
- Photography
- Filming in workshops, factories or industrial environments
Knowledge of 3D printing, scanning, CAD or engineering is not required. We will teach you what you need to know about our services and technology.
What we offer
Creative ownership
You will be our first dedicated content hire and will have a genuine opportunity to shape how the role and content function develop.
You will not be joining a large team with an established system. You will be trusted to build an approach that works.
The equipment you need
We will provide suitable cameras, audio equipment, lighting, software and subscriptions.
We are also open to investing in additional equipment where there is a clear case that it will improve the content or allow us to create something new.
Interesting subject matter
You will have access to unusual engineering projects, advanced scanning equipment, large-format 3D printers and real customer problems being solved.
The work is varied, visual and often unlike anything people will have seen before.
Opportunity to develop
As our first content hire, you will have the opportunity to grow with the role and help build the wider content function around you.
The reality of the role
Surface Scan is a growing small business, and this will be a varied, hands-on position.
There will be days when you are filming, editing, planning future content, arranging access to a project and responding to comments within the same day.
There is no large content team or existing playbook. You will need to be organised, adaptable and comfortable taking responsibility.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to take ownership of an interesting subject, create content with real potential and have a visible impact on the growth of the business.
How to apply
Please email the following to [email protected]:

You must appear on camera in the video and explain why you are interested in the role and why you believe you would be a good fit for Surface Scan.
The video does not need to be professionally produced. We are interested in how you communicate, your personality and what attracts you to the opportunity.
Applications submitted without both a CV and the short video will not be considered.
