Overview
Are you a reliable, multi-skilled maintenance professional who takes pride in a job done properly? We're looking for a Maintenance Operative to look after our three residential care homes — keeping them safe, compliant and looking their best for the people who live there.
This is a varied, hands-on role with real ownership. You'll manage your own workload across the three homes, run the planned maintenance programme, handle day-to-day repairs and be the person our Home Managers trust to keep everything running smoothly. Above all, our homes are our residents' homes — every job, from fixing a tap to redecorating a lounge, is done with kindness and consideration for them.
What you'll be doing
- Delivering the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme across all three homes.
- Completing reactive repairs — basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, minor electrical work and general building maintenance.
- Carrying out monthly compliance checks, including water temperature and legionella monitoring, fire safety checks and equipment inspections, keeping records inspection-ready.
- Sourcing and comparing contractor quotes, making recommendations and managing contractors on site.
- Keeping the buildings, gardens and grounds looking welcoming and well cared for.
- Supporting refurbishment and improvement projects across the portfolio.
- Taking part in an out-of-hours on-call arrangement for urgent issues — telephone advice first, attending site only where genuinely needed.
What we're looking for
- Experience in a maintenance, handyperson or facilities role, with good all-round practical skills.
- Someone organised and self-motivated who can plan and prioritise across multiple sites.
- A full UK driving licence and your own reliable van suitable for transporting tools and materials.
- A patient, kind and considerate nature, with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people.
- Experience in a care home or healthcare setting, PPM/compliance experience or a trade qualification would be a bonus — but they're not essential.
What we offer
- £14.50 per hour, 40 hours per week.
- All professional tools and equipment provided by the company.
- Genuine autonomy — you'll run your own schedule and be trusted to get on with the job.
- Full training including safeguarding, fire safety, and health and safety.
- A friendly, supportive team and the satisfaction of making a real difference to residents' daily lives.
