We have an incredible opportunity for an Assistant Manager – Sport to be part of our dedicated Sport and Active Health team at Canterbury Christ Church University. We are passionate about sport and physical activity and deliver a range of innovative programmes and sporting opportunities.

Our facilities include a large double sports hall, spin studio, a recently refurbished gym, and grass pitches. We additionally operate a joint specialist facility which offers three floodlit hockey pitches, an indoor tennis centre, outdoor tennis courts, Cricket pitches and a spacious sports hall. Through our partnership with local clubs we offer snowsports, swimming, equestrian and cheerleading.
The Role
We believe sport is an integral part of the student experience and has a big role to play in improving the physical and mental health of our University community. Reporting to the Sport and Active Health Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for the management of the student sports club programme and ensuring it provides a first class experience whilst operating within budgetary allowances. You will directly line manage the Sport Development Officer who assists in the delivery of our Club Sport Programme, and Sports Coaches who deliver the programme activity. You will also work alongside other colleagues within the department, and the Student’s Union, to deliver the programme.
You will contribute to wider sport and active health programmes including Active Campus and the sport scholarship programme. You will also be involved in the delivery of recreational sport and physical activity opportunities that get the whole University community active as part of our Be Moved, Belong Mission. You will provide leadership and contribute to strategic action planning for sport and physical activity and deputise for the Delivery Manager where required.
The Person
We are looking for a lively, outgoing person who is a natural at engaging people.You will be confident in delivering sport and activities that can easily connect with students. You will have experience managing people, projects and budgets, organising logistics and handling multiple streams of work. You must be flexible and adaptable and able to work occasional early morning, evening and weekends, and be willing to travel to other campuses as our programmes require. You may be educated to degree level but will have relevant professional experiences in the area of sport delivery.

How will you work?
We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible and this role is Flexible and connected (Professional Services) - Campus attendance will vary across the year but must purposefully align to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders.
It is expected that the majority of your working time will be spent on campus, but in most cases the work location will be determined by the service required or the tasks/activities being undertaken.
