As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and urban green spaces in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You'll work 18.75 hours per week. You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call as well as be on a rota to be Duty Manager at Peckover House & Garden.
Interview date: Week commencing 7th September 2026
What it's like to work here:You'll primarily be based at Peckover House and Garden, working with a small local team and a broader portfolio team. You'll also be travelling to Oxburgh Estate regularly.
Peckover House and Garden was left to the trust for the benefit of the local community. With 68 acres of green space in the centre of Wisbech, it is an important place local residents and tourists alike. Across the estate there are rare urban features including small woodlands, a tenant farm, hedgerows and a traditionally managed orchard. The rest of our land is tenanted by sports clubs and schools.
At Oxburgh Estate we have 200 acres of mixed habitats on an Historic, rural Estate. We are re-establishing 130 acres of parkland, restoring woodlands and caring for a chalk stream.
It's a rare pairing of rural and urban settings that keeps the job varied and interesting year-round.
What you'll be doing:As a Ranger, you'll be looking after the wider estate beyond the garden wall, maintaining paths, a community orchard and a small woodland. You'll also be working with partners and tenants on and off the estate. You'll also be continuing with a newly established suite of Wildlife Surveys, monitoring the condition of our land at Peckover and well established ones at Oxburgh.
You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
As Duty Manager, you'll be responsible on the day for the smooth running of the property during opening hours, acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint.
You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what's possible in this role.
