Join our team!
At Lazy Day Foods, we have a simple mission: to create irresistible gluten-free, milk-free and egg-free vegan/plant-based goodies, hand baked with love.
We use the very best ingredients in our own dedicated allergen-friendly bakery because we believe everyone deserves the occasional treat – especially when it is as joyfully delicious as ours.
As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a Hygiene Supervisor to join our friendly team and help us maintain the high standards that are so important to our products, our customers and our people.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership, leading a team and making a real difference within a busy food manufacturing environment.
The role
The Hygiene Supervisor plays an important role in maintaining and continuously improving hygiene standards across all production and operational areas.
You will lead the day-to-day hygiene operation, ensuring cleaning is planned and carried out effectively around production, while meeting our food safety, quality, health & safety and customer requirements.
You will work closely with our Production and Technical teams and have the opportunity to contribute ideas and improvements as our business continues to grow.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure hygiene operations are carried out effectively and maintained to the required company, customer and regulatory standards.
- Plan and deliver cleaning schedules that work effectively alongside production requirements and audit standards, including BRCGS and GMP.
- Carry out hygiene risk assessments and regularly review cleaning frequencies, methods and requirements.
- Lead, organise and support the hygiene team, ensuring tasks and staffing levels are effectively planned.
- Ensure cleaning procedures effectively prevent allergen cross-contamination and that allergen changeovers are appropriately verified before production restarts.
- Participate in internal hygiene and GMP audits and ensure actions are followed through to completion.
- Manage hygiene consumables and chemicals
- Liaise with external providers, including laundry and pest control contractors, ensuring services meet agreed standards.
- Manage hygiene-related facilities such as washrooms and staff welfare areas.
- Oversee waste segregation, handling and disposal practices.
- Support compliance with all relevant Food Safety, Health & Safety and company standards.
- Communicate hygiene and safety expectations clearly with employees, contractors and visitors.
- Support accident and incident investigations relating to hygiene or chemical handling and ensure learnings are shared and applied.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of hygiene standards, processes and ways of working.
What we're looking for
We are looking for someone who already has a good understanding of hygiene within a food manufacturing or similarly regulated environment and is ready to bring their experience to a growing business.
Ideally, you will have:
- Proven experience in a hygiene team leader or supervisory role, preferably within food manufacturing, bakery or a similar regulated environment.
- A strong understanding of Food Safety.
- Good knowledge of COSHH and the safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals.
- Experience working with hygiene audits, risk assessments and corrective actions.
- Experience leading, supporting and organising a team.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- A practical, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to interpret information, identify risks and make sensible hygiene decisions.
- Experience working with suppliers or external contractors would be beneficial.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 3 Food Hygiene, COSHH training or equivalent experience would be advantageous.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is confident, organised, practical and approachable, with the ability to lead by example and work positively with people across the business.
You will be someone who takes pride in high standards, enjoys finding ways to improve things and understands the important role hygiene plays in producing safe, high-quality food.
A role with progression
This is a role with real opportunity to grow.
As Lazy Day Foods continues to develop, there is a clear pathway for the right person to progress into a Hygiene Manager position, taking on greater responsibility for the wider hygiene function.
We want to invest in people who are keen to develop their skills and build their career with us. As you gain experience and demonstrate your ability to lead the hygiene function effectively, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibility and progress within the business.
Working pattern
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible working hours.
We understand that flexibility is important, and we're happy to work with you to agree a pattern that works well for you and the needs of the business.
