About the role
We manufacture specialist medical-grade papers used by hospitals, medical device manufacturers and packaging companies around the world from our mill in South Cumbria.
We are looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Sales Executive to work closely with the Managing Director in growing sales across our existing and prospective customer base.
This is a proactive, growth-focused sales role. We are looking for someone who enjoys pursuing opportunities, creating momentum and converting commercial potential into profitable orders.
A significant part of the opportunity already exists within customers and markets known to Pelta. Your role will be to actively develop this potential — increasing volumes, introducing additional products, restarting previous business and progressing opportunities that have not yet been fully developed. You will also identify and pursue suitable new customers where appropriate.
Success will be measured by results. You will be expected to maintain an active pipeline, follow opportunities persistently and demonstrate meaningful commercial progress every month.
The role includes a meaningful performance-related bonus, rewarding successful sales growth and delivery against agreed commercial targets.
Pelta operates internationally, and the successful candidate will have regular contact with customers around the world. International travel will form part of the role, including customer visits, commercial meetings, product discussions and relevant industry events.
This would suit an ambitious graduate or someone in the early stages of a sales career who is confident, commercially minded, highly motivated and keen to develop rapidly.
What you'll do
- Identify opportunities to increase sales with existing, previous and prospective customers.
- Build and actively manage a pipeline of commercial opportunities.
- Pursue additional products, volumes and applications within existing customer relationships.
- Re-engage dormant and lapsed customers and look for opportunities to restart business.
- Identify and approach appropriate new customers where there is a clear commercial opportunity.
- Maintain regular and proactive contact with customers and decision-makers.
- Keep opportunities moving towards product trials, commercial discussions and orders.
- Arrange and attend customer meetings in the UK and internationally.
- Support product trials and development opportunities from initial discussion through to commercialisation.
- Prepare quotations, commercial proposals and presentations.
- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms within agreed parameters.
- Work closely with the Managing Director on significant commercial opportunities.
- Maintain clear records of pipeline value, actions, next steps and expected timing.
- Attend exhibitions, industry events and customer visits where required.
- Develop a strong understanding of Pelta's products, manufacturing capabilities and the markets in which our customers operate.
- Work closely with production, technical, quality and customer service colleagues to respond quickly to customer requirements and commercial opportunities.
What we're looking for
We are looking for someone with a strong sales and growth mentality.
The successful candidate will be:
- Motivated by winning orders, achieving targets and being rewarded for performance.
- Naturally inclined to look for the next commercial opportunity.
- Comfortable asking customers for business and moving discussions towards a decision.
- Persistent and resilient when opportunities require repeated follow-up.
- Proactive rather than waiting for enquiries to arrive.
- Competitive and motivated by measurable results.
- Commercially aware and able to recognise where genuine sales potential exists.
- Confident dealing with established customers as well as developing new relationships.
- Comfortable managing multiple opportunities at different stages.
- Disciplined about follow-up and maintaining momentum.
- Confident communicating with senior decision-makers.
- Intelligent, curious and quick to understand technical products and customer requirements.
- Highly customer focused and responsive.
- Comfortable working closely with a manufacturing operation and becoming involved across different parts of the business.
- Well organised and accountable for their own results.
- Willing and able to travel internationally as required.
Additional language skills would be a distinct advantage, particularly for working with customers across international markets.
Previous B2B sales or commercial experience would be beneficial but is not essential. We are prepared to invest in an exceptional graduate or early-career candidate who demonstrates the drive, confidence and commercial instinct required to succeed.
The person we're looking for
We are not looking for someone who simply maintains customer relationships or processes incoming enquiries.
We want someone who looks at every customer and asks:
What else could we be supplying? What opportunity are we not pursuing? What needs to happen next? How do I turn this into an order?
You will be expected to create commercial activity and measurable progress every month, whether that means growing an established customer, restarting a previous relationship or developing a completely new opportunity.
This is also not simply a desk-based sales role. You will be highly involved in the commercial activity of a responsive, customer-focused manufacturing business.
You will work closely with the Managing Director and colleagues across production, technical, quality and customer service, helping ensure that customer requirements, trials, technical questions and commercial opportunities are progressed quickly and effectively.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to gain substantial commercial exposure, travel internationally, develop relationships with customers across different markets and take increasing responsibility for the future growth of the business.
