Job Summary
The Marketing & Content Manager leads all marketing and content strategy across the portfolio, and provides senior leadership across both the marketing and editorial teams. This role owns commercial performance, audience and data strategy, and the digital platform roadmap — setting direction and holding the team accountable for delivery, with a Marketing Executive reporting directly and executing the audience growth and retention engine day to day.
Leadership & Strategy
· Own overall marketing and content strategy across all brands, setting annual plans, budgets, and KPIs.
· Provide senior leadership across marketing and editorial, ensuring strategic alignment between commercial, audience, and editorial priorities.
· Lead, manage, and develop the Marketing Executive and wider marketing team.
· Represent marketing and content at senior leadership level.
Brand Management
· In partnership with the Creative Director, lead the editorial and visual identity of all Paragraph Publishing brands across every touchpoint.
· Ensure consistency of tone, aesthetic, and positioning from print to digital to events, while allowing room for each brand to evolve.
· Work closely with design, commercial, and editorial teams to maintain and update brand guidelines.
· Ensure every piece of content, campaign, and communication reflects where each brand stands and where it's heading.
· Champion brand integrity in partnership decisions, sponsored content, and third-party collaborations, ensuring commercial activity never dilutes the authority and trust built with our audiences.
Content Strategy & Editorial Leadership
- Lead the global editorial strategy across all formats and platforms — print, web, newsletters, video, social, events, and emerging channels.
- With Content Producer and Managing Editor, define and evolve the editorial voice and identity of all Paragraph Publishing brands, ensuring consistency across touchpoints.
- Lead the team who manage all editorial planning, commissioning, and production workflows, including the unified content calendar.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of digital content — ideation, commissioning, editing, publication, and performance analysis — including long-form articles, features, interviews, news, and sponsored content.
- Explore, pilot, and implement new digital content formats, products, and experiences to stay ahead of industry trends.
- Champion original, world-class storytelling that deepens our authority while broadening our appeal
Commercial Performance
· Partner with the Commercial Director on digital advertising, partnerships, campaign development, and execution.
· Own revenue model strategy across advertising, affiliate, subscriptions, membership, events, and commerce.
· Drive yield optimisation by audience segment and intent; own paywall/freemium strategy and pricing experimentation.
· Manage marketing budgets and forecasts across brands, working with Finance and the Circulation Manager.
Website & Digital Platform Strategy
· Act as product leader for whiskymag.com, worlddrinksawards.com, and other brand sites.
· Own website redevelopment and redesign projects — product requirements, agency and developer management, roadmap and delivery.
· Ensure technical implementation and optimisation of all revenue channels (advertising, affiliate, subscriptions) across web, social, and newsletter.
· Own online privacy policy, cookie policy, and terms and conditions compliance.
· Manage web developers; briefing, invoicing, testing & application across all sites.
· Ensure templates are optimised for affiliate revenue - website, social, newsletter
· Setting and managing web site schedules with relevant team members.
Digital Advertising
· In partnership with Commercial, ensure performance of digital channels to meet advertising targets – audience sizing, page performance, onward journeys – UVs and Impressions
Affiliates
· Develop affiliate partner relationships, merchandising plans, and manage forecast/budget against affiliate targets.
· Merchandise plan for affiliate sales.
· Oversee forecast and budget to ensure we hit affiliate targets.
Platform Optimisation
· Work with Editorial and Design to ensure optimized workflow between print and digital and reducing duplication of effort
· Testing new tooling – including AI platforms and products to enhance performance. For example SEO keyword enrichment, CMS automation
Print & Subscription Distribution
· Manage third-party subscription and distribution platform relationships (e.g. Zinio, Readly, Jellyfish, CDS, Intermedia, NPS).
· Oversee free copy and specialist distribution channels.
Customer & Data Strategy
· Own the organisation's overarching customer data strategy and single customer view across CMS, CRM, email, subscriptions, and events.
· Set data governance principles — taxonomy, schema, consent, and compliance — for operational delivery by the Marketing Executive.
· Translate performance and audience data into commercial strategy and investment decisions.
Press and Media
· Increase and improve the PR strategy across all brands and for the company
· Oversee digital marketing assets, visuals, and copy.
· Marketing Partnerships: Source editorial competition prizes as required from clients and partners.
· Marketing Partnerships: Oversee Auction News with auctions round-up and upload sponsored column.
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
· Manage strategic relationships with external agencies (web, digital marketing, martech) and major suppliers.
· Represent marketing in cross-functional planning with editorial, commercial, and events leadership.
· Develop trade partnerships for awards, submissions, and sponsorships at a strategic level.
Budget Ownership
· Own the overall marketing budget and forecasting across brands.
· Sign off major supplier and vendor contracts and expenditure.
Pay: £43,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
