JOB TITLE: Assistant Greenkeeper
REPORTS TO: Head Greenkeeper & General Manager
THE CLUB: Is located north of the city of Plymouth in the county of Devon closely bordering Cornwall in the heart of the south west. It plays a regular role in the Devon County Golf Union annual calendar. Established in 1904, the Club enjoys a wealth of tradition whilst embracing a modern approach. It is widely regarded as one of the finest golf courses in Devon (Top 5 in Devon, Top 100 in England), supported by enviable catering in our traditional Clubhouse and a well-established highly regarded team of PGA Professionals.
BACKGROUND: The successful candidate will enjoy a salaried, permanent and full time (43hrs) position with the expectation of weekend work via a rota system. Yelverton Golf Club is an equal opportunities employer and is led by a progressive Board and General Manager.
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To work within the team to maintain the course to a high standard of presentation and playability; communicating course information to the relevant persons as required. This role will also be required to maintain Health and Safety working practices, whilst taking other members of staff, Members and guests into consideration.
Experience is essential for the position.
WORKING HOURS (dependent on season): 6am-2.30pm (weekdays), 6am-9am (weekends, rota system)
SALARY: Dependent on experience, £27,00 - £30,000pa
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· To assist in ensuring the golf course is properly laid out and prepared for Members and guests to the Club and that a very high standard of presentation of the golf course is maintain.
· Work with all members of the Greenkeeping Team (including volunteers).
· To assist in the turf maintenance including mowing, irrigation and control of pests and diseases on the greens and other playing surfaces.
· To assist in the maintenance of bunkers, course furniture, peripheral areas and general presentation.
· In conjunction with the Head Greenkeeper gain knowledge of the plant machinery used for your specific tasks, ensuring you are only using the machinery you have been properly trained on, in the correct manner and comply with Health and Safety regulations whilst in operation.
· Prepare machinery ready for use
· Clean machinery after use
· Remain conversant with modern greenkeeping practices and to attend training courses which are identified as being necessary for the performance of the position.
· To comply with any reasonable instructions issued by the Head Greenkeeper
· To promote good environmental practice
