Base Engineer - Falmouth, Cornwall - Full Time
CMS Geoscience is looking for an experienced Base Engineer to join our team at our site in Falmouth, Cornwall. This is a hands-on role responsible for the day-to-day running of our warehouse, workshop and yard facilities, ensuring our geotechnical and survey equipment is maintained, serviced and always ready for deployment. You'll play a key role in supporting our survey operations, working closely with the Technical Manager and project managers to keep equipment mobilisations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Day to day supervision of the company base facility in Falmouth,Cornwall, to include the main warehouse, workshop, yard and associated site areas
- Responsible for the inspection, maintenance, servicing and repair of all geotechnical and sampling equipment and associated mechanical and hydraulic systems
- Supervising the checking equipment in and out before and after survey mobilisations, including condition checks, function tests and completion of all associated paperwork and records
- Maintaining and developing the company inventory and asset management system, ensuring all equipment is accurately logged, tracked and stored correctly
- Supporting equipment mobilisations, including preparation of kit lists, packing, labelling and coordination with survey project managers
- Attending vessel mobilisations and demobilisations at port as required
- Taking responsibility for company vehicles including routine checks, servicing schedules and defect reporting
- Coordinating goods in and out, including booking and managing haulage and freight suppliers, receiving deliveries and dispatching equipment to site or subcontractors
- Ensuring a tidy, organised and safe working environment in compliance with company health, safety and environmental policies
- Overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and yard on the site.
- Working with the management team to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Essential:
- 10+ years practical, hands-on engineering background, ideally in the marine, offshore, subsea, construction or plant industries (or 5 years' experience and NVQ level 2/3 in mechanical, plant or marine engineering as a minimum)
- General mechanical & electrical competence
- Full UK driving licence required
- Able to work independently, managing own workload
- Happy to supervise and mentor junior staff
- Experience of stock, asset or inventory management
- Excellent organisational skills
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy with the ability to maintain accurate written records, complete equipment paperwork and use inventory /asset management systems
- IT literacy in all basic Microsoft packages as a minimum
Desirable:
- Hands on experience with geotechnical, sampling or survey equipment
- City & Guilds or equivalent in electrical competence
- Welding experience and or hydraulic competence
- Forklift license
- Slinger/banksman ticket
- Trailer towing license
All applicants for this position will be required to work on site at Falmouth every day- this is not a hybrid role.
All applicants must be medically fit for manual labour and for mobilisation on board vessels and will be required to undertake a medical as a condition of employment.
Pay: From £38,000.00 per year
