Aspira Education are recruiting a Catering & Learning Support Assistant to work within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Swadlincote, supporting pupils with behavioural needs and helping deliver food provision across the school day.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working in a school kitchen, catering environment, or support role who is looking to develop experience within education and learning support.
Hours
37 hours per week
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 8.10am – 3.50pm
Thursday: 8.10am – 4.20pm
Friday: 8.10am – 3.40pm
About the Role
This is a hybrid position combining very basic food preparation duties with Teaching Assistant support.
As a Catering & Learning Support Assistant you will:
- Prepare and distribute breakfast, breaktime snacks, and lunch items
- Complete very basic food preparation (food is delivered from another school)
- Ensure food areas remain clean, organised, and compliant with hygiene standards
- Support pupils within food-related lessons (from September 2026)
- Assist teaching staff in maintaining a calm and structured learning environment
- Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups where required
- Help encourage positive routines and engagement throughout the school day
This role offers a strong pathway into education for individuals currently working in school catering, hospitality, or support roles.

This role is based within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Swadlincote supporting pupils who require a more structured and supportive educational environment.
The school provides a nurturing setting focused on building confidence, engagement, and positive outcomes for young people who benefit from smaller class sizes and additional support.
What We’re Looking For

You don’t need formal teaching qualifications, but you must:
✔ Be reliable and organised
✔ Have a calm and supportive approach
✔ Be comfortable working around young people
✔ Have good communication skills
✔ Be flexible and proactive
✔ Have basic understanding of food hygiene
All Applicants Must Have
- The right to work in the UK
- An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Two recent references
- Willingness to complete safeguarding training with Aspira
- Ability to start ASAP
- Full UK driving License and the willingness to put business insurance on their vehicle
