Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Activities Co-ordinator to enhance the quality of life for residents in our care community. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine passion for engaging seniors through meaningful activities and social programs. As an Activities Co-ordinator, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating a diverse range of recreational activities tailored to residents' interests and needs, including those requiring specialized dementia and Alzheimer's care. This role offers an opportunity to make a positive impact by fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment for our residents.
Duties
- Develop and implement engaging activity programs that promote social interaction, mental stimulation, and physical well-being among residents.
- Assess individual resident needs and preferences to tailor activities that support their interests and cognitive abilities.
- Coordinate with care staff to ensure activities align with residents' care plans, including those with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
- Lead and facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, music sessions, games, outings, and therapeutic exercises.
- Maintain a safe environment during all activities by adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Foster a warm, inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation from all residents regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities.
- Record participation levels and gather feedback to continuously improve activity offerings.
- Collaborate with families and external organizations to enrich the activity calendar with diverse experiences.
Experience
- Prior experience working in residential care homes is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of senior care practices, including dementia and Alzheimer's care strategies.
- Proven ability to design and lead engaging recreational activities tailored for older adults in a care home setting.
- Strong communication skills essential for effectively interacting with residents, families, staff, and external partners.
- Experience in caregiving roles within senior or dementia care environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with activity planning software or record-keeping tools is preferred but not required.
- A compassionate approach combined with creativity and patience is vital for success in this role.
- To ensure that the home is properly decorated on special days throughout the year- i.e Christmas day, St Georges Day etc…
- To keep a daily record of all activities which have taken place that day, whether by you or outside entertainers.
- To liaise with families on all social matters and take pictures to provide evidence of such involvement.
