Based in Gateshead and part of Fairley Gunn Group, SCS has built its reputation on reliability, technical quality and long standing customer relationships.
The role
We are looking for a practical, reliable and organised Storeperson and Driver to join the team.
This is a hands on role covering the receipt, checking, storage, movement, picking and dispatch of materials, components and finished control panels, together with local and regional collections and deliveries using the company vehicle.
You will work closely with the Purchasing and Materials Coordinator and production colleagues to keep stock accurate, materials properly allocated and deliveries running to schedule. You will also help protect high value and fragile equipment, so accuracy, careful handling and safe working are essential.
What you will be doing
- Receiving, unloading, checking and booking in incoming deliveries against purchase orders and delivery notes
- Checking quantities, condition, part numbers and supporting paperwork
- Identifying and reporting damage, shortages or incorrect parts, and quarantining items where required
- Allocating materials to the correct project, job, shelf or stock location
- Picking and issuing parts against authorised job requests or materials lists
- Recording stock movements accurately in Sage or the applicable stock system
- Supporting routine stock checks and formal stocktakes
- Monitoring agreed minimum stock levels and reporting replenishment requirements
- Picking, wrapping, packing and preparing materials and finished equipment for dispatch
- Checking that required accessories, manuals, certificates, labels and dispatch records are complete
- Loading and unloading vehicles safely using forklift trucks, pallet trucks or lifting equipment where trained and authorised
- Carrying out local and regional collections and deliveries using the company vehicle
- Completing vehicle safety checks and promptly reporting any defects or concerns
- Maintaining safe, tidy and well organised stores and dispatch areas
- Supporting continuous improvement of stores layout, stock identification and workflow
What we need from you
- Previous experience in a stores, warehouse, goods in or dispatch role, ideally within manufacturing or engineering
- A full UK driving licence suitable for the company vehicle
- Current recognised forklift truck certification, or substantial recent forklift experience with willingness to complete company approved refresher or certification training
- Experience using computerised stock control or warehouse systems
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when checking similar part numbers, quantities and delivery records
- A methodical and safety conscious approach
- Confidence handling high value, fragile or bulky components and equipment
- The ability to plan and prioritise competing goods in, production, dispatch and delivery requirements
- Clear communication skills when dealing with colleagues, suppliers and customers
- Confidence raising concerns where stock requests, paperwork or working practices are unclear or unsafe
What kind of person fits this role
You will be reliable, organised and comfortable taking ownership of your work.
You will take pride in keeping stock accurate, maintaining orderly stores and ensuring equipment is handled and delivered safely. You will be comfortable challenging unclear requests professionally and reporting shortages, damage or delays promptly rather than allowing problems to drift.
What is on offer
- Salary of £24,500 to £27,000 per annum, depending on experience
- 32 days holiday including bank holidays
- A development and training plan tailored to your role and strengths
- Family friendly working conditions
- Permanent, full time employment
- Free on site parking
