SAPUK Advocacy Volunteer (Remote) – 6 hrs/week

We provide free services including online chat support, Safe Spaces, life coaching, community events, and a community Food Pantry.
Role Overview
Advocacy Volunteers support individuals who may struggle with communication, appointments, or navigating services due to anxiety, neurodiversity, trauma, or challenging personal circumstances. The role focuses on empowering people to understand their rights, express their needs, and make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support service users with arranging and attending appointments
- Assist with emails, letters, forms, and basic admin tasks
- Manage mailbox queries, consent forms, and simple calls
- Provide reassurance, guidance, and emotional support
- Help individuals understand information and communicate clearly
- Ensure service users know their rights, choices, and options
- Maintain accurate, confidential records (GDPR & safeguarding)
- Escalate safeguarding concerns appropriately
- Promote a non‑judgemental, person‑centred approach
Essential Requirements
- UK resident, 18+, own laptop
- Able to commit 6 hours per week
- CV and cover letter required
- DBS check
- Clear written, verbal, and telephone communication
- Basic admin and organisational skills
- Empathy, patience, and ability to support anxious individuals
- Experience supporting vulnerable individuals
- Safeguarding experience or strong understanding of recognising and escalating concerns
- Ability to simplify information and support service users to express their needs
- Commitment to confidentiality, GDPR, boundaries, and rights‑based practice
- Willingness to learn advocacy skills and service‑user rights
Desirable
- Knowledge of human rights and advocacy principles
- Experience communicating with professionals (GPs, schools, social workers)
- Understanding of mental health, neurodiversity, or trauma‑informed practice
- Additional admin experience (mailboxes, forms, record‑keeping)
Person Specification
Compassionate, reliable, organised, inclusive, strong communicator, able to maintain boundaries, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
Two references required.
