FMIT HOLMES Indexer, Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT)
.
An opportunity has arisen to be an integral member of Cumbria Constabulary’s FMIT and provide HOLMES support when investigating major and complex crime, serious and organised crime including complex non-recent abuse cases and cold cases of homicide and rape; under the direction a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) and reporting to the Lead FMIT investigator and/or Detective Sergeant.

You will support a small team of police staff investigators and detectives within FMIT and support detectives across the force area when major crimes occur, ensuring the smooth running of accounts on the HOLMES system.

Key responsibilities:
.
- Accurately record information from a variety of internal / external sources to enable it to be processed on to the HOLMES computer system.
- Register and index information onto the HOLMES system in line with direction from the SIO team and or HOLMES officer manager.
- Analyse and cross reference information using the searching capabilities of HOLMES to identify links between different pieces of information and ensure its easy retrieval or research.
- Provide support and guidance to police officers of all ranks and new FMIT / MIR / investigation team members to ensure consistent and accurate use of the HOLMES system.
- Interrogate the HOLMES database and supply information to assist the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) team to determine lines of policy, strategy, and lines of enquiry.
- Structure and categorise the HOLMES database for each incident as per the SIO’s requirements to ensure objectives of investigation are achieved.
- Prioritise the workload of the incident room using the document management facility of HOLMES to ensure information / documentation is dealt with expeditiously.
- Provide confidential administration and typing support to the Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT).
- Assist the enquiry team to prepare a comprehensive court file to forward to CPS.
- Support the Force Major Investigation Team develop a working process to achieve a paperless Major Incident Room (MIR).
- Provide assistance with the HOLMES administration function, which includes the creation of new incidents and the MIPP.

A HOLMES indexer must understand and work within extensively defined guidelines (see attached role profile for full details); however, there is scope to use initiative when conducting the investigations.

There is a need for absolute confidentiality and discretion by the HOLMES indexer and under no circumstances should details or information be disclosed to any unauthorised party.
.
A HOLMES indexer is required to understand and work within set procedures dictated by legislation, Home Office guidance, national best practice and force policy and procedures. A HOLMES indexer does this under the supervision of the FMIT DS, FMIT Lead Investigator, SIO team or HOLMES office manager.

Essential criteria:
.
- Understanding of Major Incident Room procedures and MIRSAP
- Experience & Knowledge of working on live V16 HOLMES investigations.
- Full driving licence holder
- Willingness to work at various locations (MIRs) in the Cumbria force area.

Challenges:
.
Although the role is situated at Cumbria Constabulary HQ, at Penrith, a HOLMES indexer may be required to work at various Major Incident Rooms throughout the Cumbria force area.
.
On occasions the HOLMES indexer will be working on more than one complex enquiry at any given time and may be required to work extended or unsociable hours.
.
The HOLMES indexer may from time to time be exposed to upsetting content of material passing through the MIR, i.e., details of abuse suffered by a victim etc.
.
The HOLMES indexer will need to be aware of the impact this could have upon their health and wellbeing and report any problems to their line supervisor as soon as possible.
.
The HOLMES indexer will need to keep abreast of the HOLMES V16 system and up to date with any changes and updates as they appear on the system from upgrades and fault resolution.

Pay/location:
.
The role will be a full-time police staff post, contracted for 37 hrs per week Monday-Friday, 08.00 – 16.00, and based at Cumbria Constabulary HQ in Penrith, with travel required to other stations within the county area.
.
There is opportunity for working from other locations within the force area and some agile working. Part-time applications would be considered on a case-by-case basis.
.
This post is a scale 4 post. The starting salary is £27,204.00 moving up to £29,859.00.
.
The successful candidate will also be required to undergo a thorough vetting process before being confirmed in role.
.
