Job Summary
Hanford School is seeking a caring, organised and reliable Assistant Matron to join our boarding and pastoral team. This is a rewarding and varied role supporting the welfare, wellbeing and day-to-day care of pupils within a busy boarding environment.
Working closely with the Matron and wider pastoral team, the Assistant Matron will help create a safe, supportive and welcoming atmosphere for pupils. The successful candidate will provide pastoral, medical, domestic and administrative support, while building positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the welfare, wellbeing and pastoral care of pupils.
- Act as a friendly and approachable member of the boarding team.
- Assist with administering and recording medication in line with School procedures.
- Liaise with parents, colleagues and healthcare professionals as required.
- Support pupils who are unwell and provide basic first aid.
- Assist with laundry, clothing management and general housekeeping duties.
- Help ensure boarding accommodation is safe, tidy and welcoming.
- Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks.
- Support boarding house activities, events and the daily routines of the House.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as required by the Matron.
Experience and Skills
Essential
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Caring, patient and approachable nature.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional, reliable and flexible approach.
- Basic IT skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a school, boarding, care or pastoral setting.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience administering medication.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child welfare practices.
- Full driving licence.
- Experience with laundry, housekeeping or domestic duties.
