Delifonseca is looking for an experienced sandwich maker / chef to head up a the sandwich making team for the boardroom catering element of our outside catering department.
The right candidate should be an early riser and be able to handle pressure on busy shifts, keeping our high standards consistent but also be systematic and be able to plan workloads ahead both for yourself and the rest of the sandwich making team. It is imperative that the candidate shows a passion for food and an enthusiasm for high-quality products and fantastic service. We are seeking a proactive candidate with a “can-do” attitude.
As a multi-functional food business, it is crucial that the right candidate is adaptable and dynamic in the face of change (last minute orders, increases, menu changes etc) and develops positive working relationships with inter-department colleagues who will often assist with production at busy times.
You will be managed by and work closely with the Outside Catering Manager and Outside Catering Head Chef.
The job will generally involve starting the day early by making fresh sandwiches and sides and then plattering them up to fit Delifonseca's high standard specs. These need to all be ready to be out for delivery in time for lunch. On quiet days you may work on your own on other days you can expect to have up to 4 people assisting with the output required. As the full-time 'lead' sandwich chef you will be expected to manage their work output.
Once each day's orders are despatched you will be required to prep for the following day/week. You will also need to ensure that the catering room is kept clean, tidy and organised. Practicing good food hygiene, rotation, labelling etc. With that organisation you will be required to keep track of stock and take part responsibility in ordering both food (bread, cakes etc) and well as consumables. We have a fairly wide range of platters so the ideal candidate must have decent literacy and numeracy skills to ensure and organise the work output and avoid mistakes in items, volumes, dietaries etc.
The kitchen is spacious and newly kitted out, with a separate outside catering room. We require someone who has relevant sandwich/catering experience and who is used to busy kitchens. Organisation, attention to detail and high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are imperative. As the shifts generally start between 7-8am, the job would suit an early riser! Shifts will mostly run Monday-Friday, but there will be an expectation for the occasional weekend shift. Finish times will vary depending on the orders placed. As a rule the quieter periods for this job fall on school holidays.
A clean full driving licence is preferable (but not essential) as on busy days the role may sometimes require assistance with the deliveries in the company vehicle.
We are located slightly out of the city centre by the river a few minutes from Brunswick Train Station and we have a large car park with free parking.
We offer a reasonable working week with no late nights, an equitable share of the tips and discounts in the foodhall and restaurant.
