Support Young People with Additional Learning Needs to Succeed
We are looking for caring, resilient, and motivated Primary ALN Learning Support Workers to join a range of welcoming secondary schools in and around Hereford. This rewarding role involves supporting students aged 11–16 with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) to access learning, build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their full potential.

The Role
As a primary ALN Learning Support Worker, you will:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with Additional Learning Needs across Key Stages 1 and 2.
- Support learners with a range of ALN, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech, language and communication needs, moderate learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Work alongside teachers and the school's ALN team to adapt learning activities and ensure students can fully engage in lessons.
- Implement strategies and interventions to meet individual learning needs and support students to achieve their personal targets.
- Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, independence, communication, and confidence.
- Support students' academic progress alongside their personal, social, and emotional development.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement, wellbeing, and inclusion.
- Assist with intervention programmes and contribute to monitoring student progress.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with children or young people with Additional Learning Needs in a school, care, youth work, coaching, or support setting.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships and motivate young people.
- Experience supporting learners with ALN, autism, ADHD, communication needs, or SEMH is highly desirable.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, health and social care, psychology, youth work, learning support, or ALN are advantageous but not essential.
- An Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) is desirable for school-based roles in Wales.
