We are looking for a reliable, confident and hands-on Housing Support Worker to work on-site across our supported accommodation properties in Birmingham.
This is a field-based, hands-on role. The successful applicant will spend their working time travelling between properties, visiting tenants, attending inspections and dealing with practical day-to-day matters at our accommodation.
This is not an office-based or remote administrative position.
Essential Requirements
Applicants MUST:
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Have their own reliable car available for work
- Be based in Birmingham
- Be able to travel regularly between properties across Birmingham
- Be comfortable working independently and visiting tenants face-to-face
Driving and having your own vehicle are essential requirements for this position. Please do not apply if you do not have access to your own car.
Main Responsibilities
The role will include:
- Travelling between supported accommodation properties across Birmingham
- Regularly visiting tenants at their accommodation
- Carrying out face-to-face tenant welfare and support visits
- Checking on tenant wellbeing and identifying any immediate concerns
- Attending scheduled property inspections
- Carrying out property and room checks
- Attending properties when access is required for inspections, maintenance or other visits
- Meeting contractors, inspectors or other professionals at properties when required
- Supporting and overseeing new tenant move-ins
- Meeting new tenants at properties and completing the physical tenancy sign-up process
- Going through tenancy documents and house rules with new residents
- Handing over keys and ensuring tenants are properly settled into their accommodation
- Carrying out spot checks and unannounced property visits when required
- Checking the general condition, cleanliness and appropriate use of properties
- Identifying damage, maintenance problems and health and safety concerns during visits
- Taking photographs of property issues where required and reporting them back to management
- Checking that tenants are following property and tenancy rules
- Speaking directly with tenants regarding any concerns or issues at the property
- Delivering notices, letters or other documents to tenants when required
- Following up with tenants face-to-face where management has been unable to contact them
- Attending properties where complaints, incidents or concerns have been reported
- Identifying and immediately escalating safeguarding or serious welfare concerns
- Helping resolve straightforward issues at the property where appropriate
- Supporting tenants with practical housing-related matters
- Carrying out move-out/property condition checks when required
- Returning keys, collecting documents or transporting small items between properties when necessary
- Providing management with clear updates following visits and inspections

- Organised enough to attend multiple properties and appointments throughout the day
- Trustworthy and responsible
- Familiar with Birmingham and comfortable travelling throughout the city
Previous experience in supported accommodation, housing support, social housing, property inspections, support work or a similar field-based role would be beneficial.
An appropriate DBS check may be required for the successful applicant.
