Aspris is building a new, greenfield platform to underpin our next phase of digital capability. We are seeking a Principal Engineer to take a leading technical role in shaping, building, and evolving this platform. Software in the education space is often outdated and lacks modern engineering approaches. This role will help us demonstrate what is possible - delivering meaningful impact for Teachers and Young People.
Working closely with the CIO, this role will play a key role in transitioning development in-house and establishing a sustainable internal engineering capability. This is a hands-on role requiring full-stack expertise, strong architectural thinking, and an interest in emerging approaches such as agentic development.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical collaboration with our digital partner, Faculty, on the design and development of a new greenfield platform

Contribute to architecture and engineering decisions during early build phases alongside Faculty

Work directly with Python (FastAPI) services developed in partnership with Faculty, contributing to implementation and evolution

Take ownership of Aspris’ AWS environment during development, ensuring scalability, security, and cost efficiency

Design and build full-stack solutions leveraging React, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and modern UI frameworks (e.g. shadcn)
What experience or qualifications will you need?

Strong full-stack engineering capability across modern web applications

Hands-on experience with Python (ideally FastAPI), React and PostgreSQL

Strong experience with AWS (infrastructure, deployment, and environment ownership)

Familiarity with modern component/UI systems (e.g. shadcn or similar)

Ability to work effectively across a partner-led delivery model, collaborating with external engineering teams

Understanding of software architecture patterns and cloud-native design

Interest in or experience with agentic / AI-assisted development workflows

Comfortable operating in ambiguous, early-stage environments with high autonomy

Strong communication skills, particularly when working across internal teams and external partners
