An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Night Transport Manager to join our team based at our Heston site.
About the Role
As an Assistant Night Transport Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Night Transport Manager to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective movement of goods across the UK and internationally. You will contribute to the smooth running of night operations, balancing service delivery, compliance, and cost control.
This is a fast‑paced and hands-on role where strong leadership, organisation, and a proactive approach are essential.
What You’ll Do
- Support the management of transport budgets and service levels across contracts
- Ensure deliveries are loaded and unloaded accurately, including operating FLT where required
- Carry out site security procedures and checks as needed
- Complete ad hoc vehicle checks to ensure compliance with pre‑use inspections and equipment standards
- Support training activities, including scheduling and maintaining training records
- Assist with booking vehicle and FLT maintenance in line with schedules
- Provide reporting to management, ensuring follow-up actions are completed
- Support incident and accident management, including investigations and regulatory reporting
- Maintain accurate Health & Safety records and documentation
- Support staffing schedules in line with customer requirements
- Assist with route planning changes and operational adjustments as required
- Proactively arrange agency cover and support agency cost control, including timesheet approvals
- Support the transport operation out of hours across the network
- Assist with administration, customer quotations, invoicing, and IT systems
- Support vehicle and driver compliance, including telematics monitoring and infringement management
- Assist with stock inventory and report any discrepancies immediately
- Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs while maintaining service levels
- Monitor drivers’ hours, holidays, and rest periods
- Support recruitment and retention of skilled colleagues
- Carry out driver assessments up to Class 2
- Support recovery planning and operational contingencies
- Train drivers and porters on contract-specific requirements, including site access and surveys
- Accompany drivers and porters to support training and risk assessments
- Provide cover for driver or porter duties where required
- Step in to cover the Night Transport Manager during absence
What We’re Looking For
- Good level of literacy and numeracy
- Strong knowledge of transport regulations and Health & Safety requirements
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and transport/warehouse systems
- Basic understanding of employment law
- Understanding of route planning and optimisation
- Flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Valid Class 2 Driving Licence with up-to-date CPC
- Valid FLT licence

Shift pattern:
- Sunday to Thursday between 22:00-07:00hrs
