About Caronne Care
Caronne Care is looking for a motivated and committed Student Social Worker to join our Children and Young People services on a part-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a social work student who wants to gain practical experience alongside their studies and develop their knowledge and skills in safeguarding, care planning, risk management and supporting children and young people. The successful candidate will work closely with the Service Manager and wider care team, supporting the delivery of safe, person-centred and high-quality care. The role is designed to complement university/college studies and provide valuable experience within a regulated care environment.
Key Responsibilities
Care Planning and Reviews
- Assist the Service Manager with the development, review and updating of individual care plans for children and young people.
- Support the completion and review of risk assessments, ensuring identified risks and control measures are clearly documented.
- Assist with reviewing individual needs, strengths, goals, preferences and outcomes.
- Contribute to reviews following changes in circumstances, behaviour, presentation or care needs.
- Ensure care plans accurately reflect the young person's current needs and wishes.
- Support the team to ensure care plans are person-centred and promote independence, wellbeing and positive outcomes.
- Identify areas where care plans may require updating or further professional input.
Safeguarding
- Support the Service Manager with safeguarding concerns and enquiries.
- Assist with preparing safeguarding reports and chronologies.
- Review safeguarding information and identify any patterns, emerging concerns or areas requiring escalation.
- Support the manager in gathering information from staff, young people, families and relevant professionals.
- Assist with documenting safeguarding concerns accurately and objectively.
- Support appropriate information sharing with social workers, local authorities and other professionals.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow Caronne Care's safeguarding and information-sharing procedures.
- Escalate concerns immediately where a child or young person may be at risk of harm.
Incidents and Accidents
- Assist the Service Manager with the review of incident, accident and safeguarding records.
- Review incidents to identify possible patterns, recurring risks or changes in presentation.
- Assist with investigations and fact-finding where appropriate.
- Support the completion of incident reports and management reviews.
- Identify whether risk assessments, care plans or support strategies need to be reviewed following an incident.
- Support the manager in identifying learning and preventative actions following incidents.
- Ensure records are factual, professional and completed within required timescales.
Missing From Care / Missing Person Support
- Assist with the review of missing-from-care incidents involving children and young people.
- Support the completion and review of individual missing-from-care risk assessments and prevention plans.
- Assist with reviewing patterns of missing episodes and identifying potential safeguarding or exploitation risks.
- Support the Service Manager with post-incident reviews and relevant documentation.
- Assist with information gathering following a young person's return.
- Ensure concerns identified through missing episodes are appropriately escalated.
Reviewing Situations and Identifying Risk
- Review individual situations involving children and young people and provide information to assist management decision-making.
- Identify changes in behaviour, circumstances, relationships or presentation that may indicate an emerging concern.
- Consider potential risks relating to exploitation, missing episodes, self-neglect, abuse, neglect, peer relationships, online activity or other safeguarding concerns.
- Support the manager in determining whether further assessment or professional intervention may be required.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions where appropriate.
Professional LiaisonWorking under the direction of the Service Manager, the Student Social Worker may assist with communication and information gathering involving:
- Social workers
- Local authority children's services
- Education providers
- Health professionals
- CAMHS and other relevant services
- Police and safeguarding professionals
- Parents, families and representatives
- Other agencies involved in the young person's care
The post holder must understand the limits of their role and must not represent themselves as the allocated social worker or make decisions outside their level of authority.Records and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and professional records.
- Assist with maintaining care planning and safeguarding documentation.
- Support the preparation of reports, summaries, chronologies and case information.
- Ensure documentation is factual, objective and appropriately recorded.
- Assist with audits of care plans, risk assessments, incident records and safeguarding documentation.
- Ensure confidential information is handled appropriately and securely.
Quality Assurance
- Assist the Service Manager with regular quality checks and audits.
- Review documentation to ensure it is current, accurate and reflective of the young person's needs.
- Identify gaps in recording or documentation and bring these to the manager's attention.
- Assist with monitoring actions arising from incidents, safeguarding concerns, reviews and audits.
- Contribute to service improvement and learning.
Supporting Staff Practice
- Work alongside the Service Manager to identify areas where staff may require additional guidance or support.
- Assist with identifying themes arising from incidents, safeguarding concerns and care records.
- Support the development of learning points for staff meetings and supervision.
- Promote good safeguarding practice and person-centred care.
- Encourage staff to maintain professional boundaries and appropriate communication with young people.
Young People and Participation
- Promote the voice, choice and rights of children and young people.
- Support young people to express their views, wishes and feelings.
- Ensure the young person's views are reflected within care planning and reviews.
- Promote positive relationships and respectful communication.
- Support a strengths-based approach that recognises the young person's abilities, aspirations and goals.
- Where appropriate, support young people to understand their care plans, risk assessments and agreed support strategies.
Additional ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate may also be required to:
- Assist with preparing information for professional meetings and reviews.
- Attend meetings with the Service Manager where appropriate.
- Support the monitoring of actions arising from safeguarding meetings and care reviews.
- Assist with reviewing complaints, compliments and feedback from young people and families.
- Assist with analysing trends in incidents, accidents, safeguarding concerns and missing episodes.
- Support the development of service improvement plans.
- Assist with preparing information for internal audits, local authority reviews and regulatory inspections.
- Undertake research relevant to children and young people's social care.
- Keep up to date with developments in social care, safeguarding and relevant legislation.
- Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the level of the role and their professional development.

- Understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Important Role Boundary
This is a student development role and does not replace the responsibilities of a qualified or registered social worker. The post holder will work under the supervision and direction of the Service Manager and will be expected to escalate concerns appropriately. They will not independently make statutory social work decisions, undertake assessments outside their competence, or provide professional opinions beyond their training and authority.
