Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Driver Trainer to lead our Driver Training School, support the Transport Manager in maintaining legal and regulatory compliance, and work closely with the Head of Excellence to improve driving standards across the business.
This is a varied role combining driver training, compliance support, and providing operational support through planning and driving activities when required. Your expertise will help develop our drivers, promote a strong safety culture, and drive continuous improvement across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the company's driver induction and training programme.
- Deliver Driver CPC, induction, refresher, and remedial training.
- Carry out driver assessments, coaching, mentoring, and onboarding of new drivers.
- Promote safe, compliant, and fuel-efficient driving practices.
- Support the Transport Manager with DVSA, Operator Licence, Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive, and tachograph compliance.
- Carry out driver licence and Driver CPC compliance checks.
- Maintain accurate training records, driver competency files, and compliance documentation.
- Support accident investigations, driver debriefs, and corrective coaching.
- Assist with FORS training requirements and support FORS audit preparation.
- Analyse driver performance, incidents, and fuel usage to identify improvement opportunities.
- Promote a positive safety-first culture across the business.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as an HGV Driver Trainer, Driver Assessor, or similar role.
- Experience delivering Driver CPC training.
- Strong knowledge of Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph legislation, and transport compliance.
- Experience carrying out driver assessments and coaching.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK HGV Licence with a valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
