A welcoming primary school in Hounslow Borough is seeking a committed Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its team from September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who is considering a future career in teaching, special educational needs, educational psychology, speech and language therapy or child development.
About the Role
You will be based within a primary classroom, providing additional support to two verbal pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who are in the same class.
Both children are settled and do not present with significant behavioural difficulties. Your role will be centred around helping them access their learning, develop their independence and build positive relationships with their classmates.
You will work alongside the class teacher and wider school team to ensure the pupils receive consistent and appropriate support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide focused support to two pupils with ASD
- Assist with English and Maths activities and help make learning accessible
- Break down tasks and provide appropriate learning prompts
- Encourage confidence, independence and classroom participation
- Support pupils with communication and social development
- Encourage positive friendships and interactions with peers
- Help pupils engage successfully in lessons and classroom routines
- Provide individual support when required
- Develop a positive, trusting relationship with the children
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SEN team
- Promote an inclusive, encouraging and nurturing learning environment
What We're Looking For
The school would particularly suit a graduate who is enthusiastic about working with children and keen to develop practical experience within a primary school setting.
You should be:
- A recent graduate with an interest in education or SEN
- Caring, patient and emotionally supportive
- Confident in communicating with children and staff
- Able to build strong and trusting relationships
- Positive, reliable and proactive
- Adaptable and willing to learn
- Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning
- Able to demonstrate at least 3 months' experience working with children, SEN or ASD
Safeguarding Requirements
Due to the nature of the role, successful candidates will need to provide:
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
- Proof of Right to Work in the UK
- Two satisfactory professional references
