Job Summary
The Registered Service Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management and continuous development of Akela Future Living's Ofsted-regulated Supported Accommodation service for young people aged 16+.
The postholder will ensure the service consistently meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements, delivers outstanding outcomes for young people and provides inspirational leadership to the wider management team. Working closely with the Directors and Nominated Individual, the Registered Service Manager will be responsible for embedding a culture of excellence, driving continuous improvement and ensuring the organisation remains at the forefront of supported accommodation provision.
The role combines strategic leadership with operational oversight, ensuring young people receive safe, effective and high-quality support whilst maintaining full compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and organisational policies.
To be considered for this role, applicants must:
- Have significant experience working with looked-after children and care-experienced young people.
- Have significant experience in management within children's social care, supported accommodation or a residential childcare setting
- Have experience managing and developing staff teams.
- Demonstrate an excellent understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
- Hold (or be willing to complete) a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or an equivalent recognised qualification where appropriate).
- Have an excellent understanding of the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 and Ofsted's inspection framework.
- Be able to provide an Enhanced DBS certificate.
- Provide two satisfactory references, one of which must be from their most recent employer.
- Hold a full UK driving licence with access to their own vehicle and business insurance.
Key Responsibilities
The Registered Service Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Providing overall operational leadership of the service.
- Acting as the Ofsted Registered Service Manager.
- Ensuring full compliance with legislation, regulations and company policies.
- Preparing for and leading Ofsted inspections.
- Driving continuous quality improvement across the service.
- Leading, supervising and developing Assistant Managers.
- Overseeing recruitment, induction, probation and staff development.
- Managing performance, capability and disciplinary processes where required.
- Monitoring safeguarding practice and ensuring robust decision-making.
- Maintaining effective relationships with Local Authorities and external agencies.
- Managing referrals, admissions and placement matching.
- Completing regular quality assurance audits.
- Monitoring service performance and key performance indicators.
- Managing service budgets and ensuring financial sustainability.
- Producing reports for Directors and external stakeholders.
- Chairing management meetings and attending multi-agency meetings.
- Leading investigations relating to complaints, safeguarding and serious incidents.
- Developing policies, procedures and best practice.
- Supporting organisational growth and new service development.
- Participating in an on-call management rota where required.
