Job summary
Ideally you will have had some experience within a medium to large heavy industrial/manufacturing environment, ideally with mechanical engineering experience, with a good understanding and empathy for an engineering environment.
The role will focus around using your communication skills, enabling you to positively interact with both the workforce and management team to ensure that HS&E legislation and compliance is adhered to.
You would be reporting to the HS&E Manager, assisting them with all aspects of HS&E control in line with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and HS&E legislation.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within a H&S role and be able to take a hands-on approach to the position. Good communication skills and an attention to detail are essential. You must be able to work well under pressure and be motivated to make an impact in the role. This is a challenging role that will stretch your knowledge and experience, therefore previous experience in H&S is advantageous. Knowledge of environmental controls would be of benefit but not essential.
You must be able to deal with challenging situations that are not planned and where H&S regulations appear difficult to comply with. You must be undaunted by having difficult conversations with all levels of employees and be able to be assertive, practical and logical.
Main Duties include:
- Ensure that the business complies with HS&E regulations.
- Assist in the training process.
- To coordinate the delivery of risk assessments as required on tasks and equipment.
- Review of current company documents such as risk assessments and HS&E procedures.
- Conduct PUWER and COSHH assessments within the timescales set.
- Auditing and inspections of department/area for health and safety compliance such as fork lift truck pre user check.
- Compile and manage accident and hazard reporting databases, analysing the data to highlight areas for improvement, helping to drive action plans to completion.
- Support the site team in accident investigation, gathering witness statements and evidence, actioning any non-compliance, providing information to put preventative measures in place.
- Through staff engagement support the Site Leadership in driving an improved health & safety culture
- Assist the HS&E department in the control of the contractor management system
- Liaise with all departmental managers to ensure their approved service providers/contractors meet compliance through review of RAMS.
- Ensure all compliance checks are in place ensuring certificates and records are up to date.
- PC literate in suite of Microsoft software.
- Assist H&S storeman when needed.

Qualifications
- NEBOSH National General Certificate (or working towards)
- Risk assessment training
- Internal auditing (preferably to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001)
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
