HOURS OF WORK:
5 days a week 9am to 5.30pm is preferable however hours can be discussed and adjustments can be made.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Day Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious, balanced meals for young children in our nursery setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation and a understanding of food safety standards. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing and development of children by providing wholesome meals in a warm and caring environment. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing meal times efficiently, ensuring dietary requirements are met, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in accordance with dietary guidelines and nutritional standards.
- Plan weekly menus that cater to various dietary needs, including allergies and special diets.
- Ensure all food is prepared safely, adhering to food safety regulations and hygiene practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, sanitising surfaces, and storing ingredients properly.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed to ensure continuous meal provision.
- Serve meals to children in a friendly manner, promoting good eating habits and positive mealtime experiences.
- Record meal times, ingredient usage, and any dietary concerns or allergies reported by staff or parents.
- If over 25 years old, to help with school pick ups.
- To assist in covering lunches for staff.
Experience
- Previous experience in food preparation or cooking within a childcare, nursery, or similar environment is highly desirable but not necessary.
- Kitchen experience with a focus on preparing meals for young children or infants is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations relevant to childcare settings is preferred but training will be given.
- Experience working in a restaurant or catering environment will be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
- Familiarity with meal planning, serving techniques, and maintaining hygiene standards in busy kitchens will be advantageous. Pay: £13.40-£14.00 per hour
