Country Store Assistant

Clarkes of Walsham is one of East Anglia’s largest independent suppliers of building, farming and garden materials, and a go-to destination for country clothing, footwear and shooting accessories. Alongside our Country Store in Walsham-le-Willows, we also have a second Country Store located at Jimmy’s Farm near Ipswich.
We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Country Store Assistant to join our retail team in Walsham-le-Willows.
You will help customers find the right products, offer knowledgeable advice and provide excellent service from their arrival through to purchase. Our Country Store stocks clothing and footwear for the whole family, alongside shooting accessories, shotgun cartridges and ammunition.
The role works on a two-week rota and includes weekends and bank holidays. Additional flexibility may be required to cover holidays, staff absences and special events. Working hours will be between 7.30am and 5.00pm, Monday to Sunday.
Key responsibilities
- Creating a warm and welcoming experience for every customer who visits the store
- Taking the time to understand customers’ needs and offering helpful product advice, recommendations and alternatives
- Building customer confidence through friendly, knowledgeable and professional service
- Processing purchases accurately and efficiently using tills and point-of-sale equipment
- Completing regulated product sales in line with firearms regulations, with full training provided
- Supporting the team in achieving sales targets and identifying opportunities to improve sales
- Ensuring products are well stocked, correctly rotated and attractively presented
- Helping to maintain a clean, tidy and inviting store environment
- Sharing customer feedback and suggesting new products or improvements that could benefit the store
- Representing Clarkes with enthusiasm, professionalism and a positive attitude
Skills and experience
- Previous customer service or retail experience (preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- An interest in country life, clothing or shooting products
- A confident and helpful approach to sales
- Good IT, organisation and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- The physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift items weighing up to 20kg
- UK driving license (essential)
