We are looking for an organised and commercially minded Import & Export Operations Assistant to support our China–UK import operations.
You will coordinate shipments from Chinese suppliers through to UK delivery, working with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs agents and other logistics partners.
Mandarin speaking is preferred due to regular communication with suppliers in China.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate China–UK import shipments by sea and air, including FCL/LCL.
- Manage shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists and bills of lading/air waybills.
- Assist with UK customs declarations, HS/commodity codes, customs values, origin and duty/VAT.
- Liaise with freight forwarders, customs agents, hauliers, warehouses and suppliers.
- Monitor ETD/ETA, deliveries and resolve shipment or documentation issues.
- Understand and work with Incoterms, including FOB, CIF, EXW and DDP.
- Review freight quotations and assist with freight rate negotiation.
- Assist with calculating and monitoring landed costs.
- Communicate with Chinese suppliers regarding orders, production, pricing and delivery.
- Assist with basic supplier and commercial negotiations.
- Maintain accurate import/export records and shipment information.
About You
Essential:
- Experience in import/export, logistics, shipping, freight forwarding or supply chain.
- Practical knowledge of international import procedures and customs documentation.
- Understanding of HS/commodity codes.
- Experience with sea and/or air freight.
- Good Excel and administrative skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple shipments.
- Good communication and basic negotiation skills.
Desirable:
- Mandarin speaking.
- China–UK import experience.
- Knowledge of FCL/LCL and Incoterms.
- Experience with UK customs/CDS.
- Experience with landed cost calculations and freight negotiation.
- Experience communicating with Chinese suppliers.
