About the Role
Apego UK Engineering Solutions Ltd provides engineering design, mould-development, rapid-prototyping, manufacturing support, technical consultancy and product-testing services to organisations across industrial and manufacturing sectors.
We are looking for an organised, technically capable and delivery-focused Project Engineer to coordinate engineering projects from initial requirements through design, production, testing and final completion.
The successful candidate will review technical specifications, prepare project plans, coordinate engineers and suppliers, monitor schedules and support prototype development and product testing. You will work closely with customers, designers, manufacturing teams, contractors and operational stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately and within agreed cost and time requirements.
This mid-level position is suitable for candidates with experience in project engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, tooling, product development, mould design or technical project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning: Prepare project schedules, milestones, resource requirements and delivery plans for assigned engineering projects.
- Technical Requirements: Review customer specifications, drawings, materials and performance requirements to establish clear project objectives.
- Engineering Coordination: Coordinate activities between design, prototyping, manufacturing, procurement, testing and quality teams.
- Design Review: Review engineering drawings, models and technical documentation before production or prototype development.
- Prototype Coordination: Support the development, inspection and testing of prototypes, samples and trial components.
- Manufacturing Support: Work with production teams to resolve technical issues and ensure work follows approved specifications.
- Supplier Management: Communicate with approved suppliers and contractors regarding quotations, materials, components and delivery schedules.
- Procurement Support: Assist with sourcing materials, reviewing technical proposals and monitoring approved purchases.
- Schedule Monitoring: Track milestones, identify potential delays and coordinate corrective action with relevant stakeholders.
- Budget Monitoring: Support the monitoring of project expenditure, supplier costs, labour requirements and approved variations.
- Testing Coordination: Arrange product, mould and component testing and document results against agreed performance standards.
- Quality Assurance: Check that project outputs, technical documents and manufactured components meet approved requirements.
- Risk Management: Identify technical, operational, commercial and delivery risks and escalate significant concerns promptly.
- Customer Communication: Provide professional updates regarding progress, technical decisions, outstanding actions and delivery dates.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare specifications, reports, work instructions, meeting notes, test records and project handover documents.
- Process Improvement: Recommend practical improvements to design, prototyping, manufacturing and engineering-project workflows.
What We Are Looking For
- At least 2 years of experience in project engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing or a related technical position.
- Strong understanding of engineering-project coordination and delivery processes.
- Experience reading engineering drawings, specifications and technical documents.
- Good project planning, organisation and time-management skills.
- Experience coordinating engineers, suppliers, contractors and operational stakeholders.
- Familiarity with product development, prototyping or manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical and practical problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Professional customer and stakeholder communication skills.
- Confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and project-management systems.
- Ability to manage several priorities and respond to changing project requirements.
- Understanding of workplace health, safety and responsible engineering practices.
- Dependable, collaborative and delivery-focused approach to work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related subject.
- Professional engineering registration or progress toward an appropriate industry qualification.
- Experience working with moulds, tooling, prototypes, industrial components or production equipment.
- Familiarity with computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA or an equivalent platform.
- Experience using project-management software such as Microsoft Project, Monday.com, Jira or similar systems.
- Knowledge of computer-aided manufacturing and machining processes.
- Familiarity with engineering change-control and document-management procedures.
- Experience supporting procurement, supplier evaluation and technical quotations.
- Knowledge of quality-management standards and inspection processes.
- Experience working with international customers, suppliers or engineering teams.
- Valid UK driving licence where travel to customer or manufacturing sites is required.
Pay: £35,000.00-£58,000.00 per year
