Role Purpose
As a Hair Stylist at The Retreat at Matfen Hall, you will deliver exceptional hairdressing services within one of the UK's leading luxury wellness destinations. You will create personalised experiences for hotel guests, spa visitors, members and local clientele, ensuring every appointment reflects the elegance, warmth and attention to detail synonymous with Matfen Hall.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary wellness team, you will contribute to an environment where luxury, relaxation and outstanding service come together seamlessly.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Experience
- Deliver exceptional consultations to understand each guest's lifestyle, preferences and desired outcomes.
- Provide expert cutting, colouring, styling, finishing and treatment services to the highest professional standards.
- Create bespoke hair rituals that complement spa experiences and wellness journeys.
- Build lasting relationships with guests, encouraging repeat visits through outstanding service.
- Ensure every guest leaves feeling confident, refreshed and valued.
Technical Excellence
- Perform precision cutting and styling for ladies, gentlemen and special occasion guests.
- Deliver professional colouring services, including highlights, balayage, toning and colour correction (dependent upon qualifications).
- Recommend and administer luxury conditioning and scalp treatments.
- Maintain exceptional hygiene and salon standards in accordance with industry regulations.
- Keep accurate consultation and colour records.
Retail & Commercial Performance
- Recommend premium retail products suited to individual guest needs.
- Support retail targets through genuine, knowledgeable product recommendations.
- Maximise appointment utilisation and encourage future bookings.
- Contribute ideas to promote salon services, seasonal packages and events.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with therapists, spa hosts, fitness professionals and reception teams.
- Participate in promotional events, weddings and VIP experiences.
- Support colleagues during busy periods to ensure seamless guest journeys.
- Attend regular training sessions and team meetings.
Key Skills & ExperienceEssential
- NVQ Level 2 & 3 Hairdressing (or equivalent).
- Previous experience within a premium salon or luxury hospitality environment.
- Excellent cutting, styling and finishing skills.
- Outstanding communication and consultation ability.
- Professional appearance and excellent personal presentation.
- Flexible approach to weekend and evening working.
Desirable
- Colour specialist qualifications.
- Experience in luxury hotels or destination spas.
- Bridal and occasion styling experience.
- Knowledge of luxury retail brands.
- Barbering skills.
