Assistant Accountant (UK Practice Experience Required)

We are a well-established firm of Accountants and Tax Advisors based in North London. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our friendly and expanding team.

The Role
The successful candidate will have strong bookkeeping knowledge and will support the Accounts Manager across a wide range of accounting and tax compliance services. This role is ideal for an individual who is progressing in their accountancy career and is committed to delivering high-quality client service in a fast-paced practice.
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients using QuickBooks.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
- Prepare and submit Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) returns.
- Submit Companies House confirmation statements.
- Register new companies for Corporation Tax, PAYE, VAT, MTD, and Self Assessment.
- Prepare personal tax returns for landlords, company directors, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Carry out Companies House filings, including company incorporations and updates to directors and company officers.
- Prepare quarterly VAT working papers for managerial review.
- Process payroll, including RTI submissions and workplace pension setup and administration.
- Assist with the preparation of trial balances and year-end accounts.
- Liaise with clients and HMRC regarding routine accounting and tax matters.
Candidate Requirements
- Language Requirements: English (Fluent); Turkish (Preferred)
- AAT qualified, ACCA part-qualified, or a graduate with an Accounting degree.
- Minimum of 1–2 years' experience working within a UK accountancy practice.
- Strong bookkeeping experience using QuickBooks.
- Experience preparing trial balances.
- Practical experience preparing Corporation Tax and Personal Tax returns.
- Good working knowledge of QuickBooks, Xero, VT, TaxCalc, and Microsoft Excel.
- Understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD), including submission processes and bridging software.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with a varied portfolio of SME clients.
- Knowledge of cloud accounting systems and digital bookkeeping.
- Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

Salary & Benefits
- Competitive salary: £24,000 – £26,000 per annum (depending on experience)
- 20 days annual leave plus UK bank holidays
