Do you have a background in sport and a passion for helping young people?
Crystal Pathways Ltd has been awarded a DWP Flexible Support Fund contract to deliver a Sport Mentoring and Employability Support programme to 20 young people aged 18–24 in Dalkeith. We're looking for an enthusiastic, sport-savvy professional to join our team and lead delivery of this exciting provision.
You'll be working In Dalkeith with clients in the community at sporting venues — using the power of sport and your own experience to help young people overcome barriers and move into employment.
The Role
This is a fixed-term, role for 7 weeks, aligned to the contract delivery period. You will be responsible for delivering a structured mentoring and employability programme.
You'll provide one-to-one mentoring, group workshops, digital sessions and employability coaching — drawing on your own sporting background to inspire and motivate young people who lack confidence and direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver one-to-one face-to-face mentoring sessions at local sporting venues
- Facilitate face-to-face group sessions at sporting venues and local community organisations
- Deliver one-to-one and group digital sessions covering employability, IT skills and AI tools
- Conduct initial diagnostic assessments including basic skills, digital skills and barrier identification
- Create and review each participant's Personal Action Plan at every session
- Support participants with CV writing, interview preparation and job applications
- Use your personal connections within sport to make warm introductions to employers
- Provide mental health and wellbeing coaching, and escalate appropriately to other services
- Guiding participants in completing a range of courses and certifications
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience working with young people (18–24) in a mentoring, coaching or support role
- A background in sport as a professional, semi-professional, sports coach, or community sports leader
- Strong understanding of employability skills and barriers facing young people. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills able to build trust quickly
- Comfortable delivering both face-to-face and digital sessions
- Able to manage a caseload, maintain accurate records and meet MI reporting deadlines
- Willingness to travel to sporting venues across Dalkeith and surrounding areas.
Desirable:
- Level 4 qualification in Careers Advice & Guidance or equivalent
- Youth mentoring qualification
- Mental health first aid certificate
- Existing connections to local sporting venues
- Proficiency with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini, and the ability to teach these to participants
