Our client is seeking a hardworking, personable, and keen Junior Butler to support the day to day running of the private and recreational areas of their beautiful estate, including the family home, guest cottages, recreational spaces, and the shoot.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with some prior experience in a private household or high-end hospitality setting who is looking to develop their career within a professional private service team. The successful candidate must be adaptable, willing to learn, and able to switch between a hands-on, front of house role when the Principal and family are present and more administrative/estate support duties when they are not in residence.
The property is used heavily during weekends and school holidays, with the family away travelling around 3 months of the year.
Responsibilities of the Junior Butler near Salisbury, Wiltshire include:
- Looking after the Principals day-to-day, keeping all areas tidy and well presented
- Serving food, drinks, and coffees throughout the day
- Supporting the House Manager in maintaining a strong front-of-house presence, ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience for the Principal’s family and guests, whilst upholding the informal and laid-back atmosphere of the house
- Assisting with the day-to-day management of the private and recreational areas of the estate, including light administrative tasks, contractor liaison, and seasonal upkeep
- Helping with shoot days – serving food and drinks out in the field, as well as shoot lunches
- Serving drinks and dinner, including to guests staying overnight, and showing guests to their rooms
- Assisting with the use and general upkeep of household electronic systems
- Supporting stock management and provisioning, including keeping accurate inventories
- Assisting with the maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, manuals, and household documentation
- Working collaboratively with the Butler/House Manager, Estate Manager, and other household staff members as part of a wider team
- Valeting duties as required
- Occasional travel to the London property, when required
- Some prior experience in a Butler, Housekeeping, or high-end hospitality role, ideally within a private household
- Experience of, or willingness to work, shoot days
- A proactive, hands-on attitude and strong work ethic
- Good organisational skills and the ability to multitask
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A good eye for detail and presentation
- A calm, adaptable manner and the ability to keep pace in a fast-moving household
- Discipline and flexibility to meet the needs of the household
- A valid UK Driving Licence (advantageous)
A private room can be provided for those weekly commuting; and applicants would be expected to go home during their two days off.
Standard holidays to be taken when the family aren’t in residence.
Five days a week, depending on when the Principal is in residence.
