Job Title: Transport Planner
Location: Durham
Salary: £30,000
Available Hours:
Option 1: Monday to Friday, 07:00-17:00 inclusive of a 60-minute unpaid break
Option 2: Sunday to Thursday, 07:00-17:00 inclusive of a 60-minute unpaid break
Option 3: Tuesday to Saturday, 07:00-17:00 inclusive of a 60-minute unpaid break

Job Purpose:
This role is to maximize fleet efficiency and minimize costs by optimizing route planning, vehicle utilization, and driver scheduling. The role manages day-to-day logistics operations, ensuring on-time customer deliveries, regulatory compliance, and effective communication between drivers, depots, and clients in a fast-paced environment
Key Responsibilities
· Routing & Scheduling: Planning routes for general haulage or full loads, maximizing fleet utilisation and minimizing empty miles.
· Driver Management: Communicating clear job instructions to drivers, managing their schedules, and tracking real-time progress.
· Customer Service: Acting as the main point of contact to understand load requirements, provide ETAs, and resolve delivery issues.
· System Maintenance: Entering data accurately into the Transport Management System (TMS).
· Compliance & Safety: Ensuring all operations adhere to legal requirements, including driver hours and vehicle maintenance schedules.
· Some freight forwarding experience
Required Skills & Experience
· Experience: Previous experience in a fast-paced logistics or general haulage planning environment.
· Technical Skills: Proficiency in using route planning software and IT systems.
· Knowledge: Strong understanding of driver regulations and geographical knowledge.
· Communication: Effective communication skills for interacting with drivers and clients.
· Problem-Solving: Ability to act proactively to handle issues like traffic delays or vehicle breakdowns
