Senior CAD Technician
Purpose of Role
- Lead the design and development of modular bathroom pod projects in composite materials and steel from concept through to manufacture.
- Produce and oversee detailed designs of components, sub-assemblies and manufacturing information, ensuring technical accuracy and suitability for manufacture.
- Maintain and continuously improve existing product designs by updating drawings, technical documentation and project information.
- Participate in the development of new products using best practice design methodologies and Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance and support to the CAD team, promoting high standards of design quality and consistency.
- Act as the senior technical point of contact within the department, supporting the resolution of technical issues and design queries.
- Support the CAD Manager with the day-to-day operation of the department and deputise during periods of annual leave, sickness or other absence.
- Work collaboratively with Production, Commercial, Procurement and Project teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements whilst remaining practical and efficient to manufacture.
Role Requirements
- Be highly competent in using Revit, AutoCAD or equivalent 2D and 3D design software.
- Interpret complex client drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Produce technically accurate layout drawings for external client approval.
- Produce technically accurate trade-specific, manufacturing and sub-assembly drawings for production.
- Review and check drawings completed by other CAD Technicians to ensure compliance with company standards, client requirements and regulatory requirements.
- Allocate, prioritise and coordinate workloads within the CAD team alongside the CAD Manager to ensure project deadlines are achieved.
- Provide day-to-day technical guidance, mentoring and coaching to CAD Technicians, supporting their ongoing development.
- Act as the first point of escalation for technical queries within the department.
- Identify opportunities to improve drawing standards, design processes and departmental efficiency.
- Liaise with internal departments, suppliers and customers to resolve technical and design-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, building regulations, company procedures and quality standards.
- Support the implementation of new products, manufacturing methods and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with planning departmental resources and monitoring project progress.
- Promote a positive, collaborative and professional working environment.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and technical direction to the CAD team.
- Support the induction, training and development of new and existing CAD Technicians.
- Monitor the quality and consistency of work produced within the department.
- Assist with workload planning to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the required standard.
- Provide constructive feedback and technical support to colleagues where required.
- Work closely with the CAD Manager to identify improvements to departmental processes and performance.
- Deputise for the CAD Manager during periods of absence, ensuring the effective day-to-day running of the department, prioritisation of workloads and communication with internal stakeholders.
- Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, accountability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or higher education qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Construction or Civil Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
- City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design.
- Significant experience within a CAD design environment, preferably within modular construction, offsite manufacturing or a related engineering industry.
- Demonstrable experience of supporting or leading technical teams.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles.
- Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes, construction methods, material properties and engineering tolerances.
- Experience of working within a high-volume manufacturing or modular construction environment.
- Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
Salary
Salary to be discussed depending on experience.
Hours of Work
- Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 17:00 (30-minute lunch break)
- Friday: 08:00 – 13:00
