The Role
We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Transport Planner / Customer Service Advisor to join our operations team. This is a fast-paced role combining customer service with real-time transport planning.
You will be responsible for handling customer enquiries, creating and managing bookings, allocating drivers, and ensuring all jobs run smoothly from start to finish.
This role suits someone who can stay calm under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and communicate clearly with both customers and drivers.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Handle inbound calls and emails efficiently
- Provide accurate quotes and booking confirmations
- Maintain a professional and positive company image
Transport Planning
- Create and manage jobs within the internal TMS
- Allocate drivers based on cost, capability, and availability
- Source subcontractors via platforms such as Haulage Exchange
Live Job Management
- Monitor active jobs and track progress
- Proactively identify and resolve issues
- Communicate delays or changes clearly to customers
Administration
- Ensure accurate data entry at all stages
- Update job records in real time
- Manage Proof of Delivery (POD) and close completed jobs
Problem Solving
- Identify service issues or failures
- Escalate where required with clear, factual information
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 08:30 – 17:00
- Early shift rota: 07:30 – 08:30
- Participation in evening and weekend on-call rota
Skills & Experience
- Strong organisational and multitasking ability
- Clear and confident communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable using IT systems and learning new software
- Strong numerical ability with a practical understanding of weights, dimensions, and load planning
- Ability to accurately select the correct vehicle based on pallet sizes, load weight, and space requirements
- Confident working with basic maths (area, volume, and weight calculations) to ensure safe and efficient transport planning
