We are looking for a Mechanic to join our busy maintenance team at FAW Bakers Farms.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are necessarily the same. You will be responsible for keeping a wide range of farm equipment, vehicles, machinery and plant operating safely and efficiently, helping to minimise downtime and keep the wider farm operation running smoothly.
A key part of the role will involve mechanical maintenance of our anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, which plays an important role in generating electricity for use across the farm. You will therefore have the opportunity to work across both agricultural machinery and renewable energy infrastructure.
We are looking for someone who enjoys diagnosing problems, getting stuck into repairs and finding practical solutions when equipment doesn't go to plan.
Duties will include:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on machinery, vehicles, equipment and plant.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs to minimise downtime.
- Maintain and repair equipment including pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves and associated mechanical components.
- Inspect machinery and equipment to identify worn, damaged or failed components.
- Replace components correctly, ensuring appropriate fitting, alignment, sealing and operation.
- Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns, equipment failures and maintenance emergencies.
- Carry out urgent repairs and temporary solutions where appropriate to restore operations safely and quickly.
- Carry out mechanical maintenance on the anaerobic digestion plant.
- Complete routine checks and maintenance to help maximise the reliable operation and electrical generation of the AD plant.
- Respond to day-to-day maintenance requests across the farm, including farm buildings, parlour equipment and general site maintenance.
- Work closely with the wider maintenance and farm teams to identify problems and prevent recurring breakdowns.
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow all relevant health and safety procedures.
We're looking for someone with a practical mechanical or maintenance background who enjoys working with machinery and solving problems.

You don't necessarily need previous experience working on a farm. If you have strong mechanical skills and experience diagnosing faults, maintaining machinery and replacing mechanical components, we'd like to hear from you.
Key skills include:
- A mechanical, engineering, agricultural or maintenance background.
- Experience working with equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves and mechanical drives.
- Experience carrying out preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs.
- Good fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- The ability to identify the cause of a problem rather than simply treating the symptom.
- A practical, hands-on approach to maintenance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think calmly under pressure.
- The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider maintenance team.
- A willingness to learn and develop your knowledge of agricultural and renewable energy equipment.
Working Environment
This is a hands-on outdoor engineering role. You should be comfortable working in a working agricultural environment.
Hours and Salary
Hours: 40 hours per week
Working pattern: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
Lunch: 30-minute unpaid break
Salary: £32,000 – £42,000 per year, depending on experience and skills
Accommodation: A room in shared accommodation may be available, subject to availability and the terms of the accommodation arrangement.
Pay: £32,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
