Due to continued growth, we are looking to appoint a Buyer to join our Purchasing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-developing and expanding market-leading organisation.
Job Description :
The Buyer role will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials, ingredients, packaging and consumables, ensuring the business has the right products available at the right quality, cost and time. Working closely with suppliers, production, quality, technical, planning and finance, you will play a key role in maintaining continuity of supply whilst identifying opportunities to reduce cost, improve supplier performance and support the company’s commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities :
- Manage the day-to-day purchasing of ingredients, raw materials, packaging, and other manufacturing requirements, whilst obtaining and negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, minimum order quantities, and other commercial conditions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with approved suppliers, monitoring performance including; quality, service levels, delivery accuracy and responsiveness. Managing supplier issues and escalating risks relating to shortages, quality concerns, price increases or delivery failures.
- Ensure materials are purchased in line with production requirements, forecasts, stock levels, and agreed inventory targets. Working closely with production planning to ensure continuity of supply and minimise production disruption.
- Maintain accurate purchasing information, supplier records, pricing, and purchase orders within the ERP/procurement system.
- Work with the Technical and Quality teams to ensure suppliers meet food safety, quality, traceability, and regulatory requirements.
- Support supplier audits, reviews, and performance improvement programmes where required. Ensure procurement activity complies with company policies, approved supplier procedures, and relevant food industry standards.
- Prepare regular purchasing reports, supplier performance reports and purchasing metrics. Maintain trackers and update stakeholders on pending orders and delivery issues.
- Support ad-hoc requests in the absence of other team members.
- Support with monthly stock take.
- Strict adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety policies and safe operating procedures, whilst promoting a health and safety culture to safeguard all employees.
- Strict adherence to Technical and Quality policies, proactively contributing to the business’ food safety and quality culture, whilst continually maintaining high product quality and GMP standards.
- Any other duties as required.
Essential Experience :
- Experience in manufacturing industry.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and resolving supply issues.
- Strong numerical and analytical ability, with confidence working with pricing and cost data.
Desirable Experience :
- Experience in the food industry.
- Experience in Purchasing role in a manufacturing environment.
Key Skill Attributes :
- Communication skills - Excellent communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Edge and Purchasing/ ERP systems.
- A proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
- Understanding of food safety, quality, traceability, and supplier approval processes would be advantageous.

Pay: £32,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
