Assistant Manager & Mad Science Presenter – Yorkshire
Salary: £26,000 (based on 32-hour, 4-day week)
Contract: Full-time (4 days per week), Permanent
Location: Leeds (LS11 5HL) with travel across Yorkshire
Reports to: Yorkshire Location Manager
About the Role
This is a unique, hands-on role combining science communication, performance, operations, and business support. You will be a key member of the Yorkshire team — delivering high-quality Mad Science experiences to children, while also supporting the smooth running and growth of the business.
The role is ideal for someone who:

You’ll spend part of your time delivering exciting science sessions, and part supporting operations, equipment management, and sales activity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Delivering Outstanding Mad Science Experiences
- Deliver engaging, high-energy sessions across all programme areas:
- After-school programmes
- Workshops
- Holiday camps
- Parties and special events
- Bring enthusiasm, professionalism and a strong stage presence to every session
- Develop excellent knowledge of all programme content and equipment
- Act as a role model for other presenters in quality and standards
- Support training and mentoring of new instructors
- Promote and cross-sell programmes while delivering sessions
2. Operations & Equipment Management
- Take responsibility for the organisation, maintenance and preparation of all science kits and equipment
- Ensure equipment is clean, complete, safe and ready for delivery at all times
- Manage stock levels, consumables and replacements
- Run weekly kit exchanges with presenters to ensure smooth delivery
- Maintain an organised and efficient equipment workspace
- Track company equipment, uniforms and materials issued to staff
3. Business Support & Coordination
- Support the Location Manager with day-to-day operations
- Liaise with schools and customers to ensure smooth programme delivery
- Ensure presenters have accurate schedules, information and resources
- Assist with sales and marketing activity, including contacting schools to secure bookings
- Contribute to a positive customer experience at every touchpoint
4. General Responsibilities
- Travel across Yorkshire (and occasionally beyond) as required
- Be flexible with working hours, including occasional weekends
- Maintain a professional and positive representation of Mad Science at all times
- Participate in training, feedback and personal development

- Excellent presentation and performance skills (confidence, energy and presence are key)
- Strong communication skills with both children and adults

- Passion for science communication and inspiring children
Knowledge
- Good general science knowledge
- Understanding of basic scientific equipment and safe use
- Awareness of classroom behaviour management principles
- Understanding of how to adapt content for different age groups
- Awareness of health & safety in practical environments
Experience
- Experience working with children (ideally ages 5–11)
- Experience in presenting, performing or public speaking
- Experience in a practical or hands-on environment (e.g. equipment, events, workshops)
Qualifications
- GCSEs in English, Maths and Science
- Science qualification (minimum GCSE grade A/B or equivalent)
- Degree (2:2 or above) or significant relevant experience
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Experience in schools or educational settings
- Experience in science communication or outreach
- Background in theatre, drama or performance
- Experience of managing equipment or stock systems
- Experience in sales or customer-facing roles
- Team leadership or supervisory experience
