About the Role
BMTS is a specialist medical courier company working closely with the NHS to deliver urgent blood, pathology samples, and life-saving medical items 24/7. Our work is fast-paced, time-critical, and genuinely meaningful — and we’re looking for someone to join our control room team to help make it all happen.
As a Co-ordinator & Call Handler, you’ll be on the frontline of our operations, answering calls from hospitals, booking jobs into the system, and dispatching our drivers in the most efficient and time-sensitive way. You’ll be the calm in the chaos, making sure our service runs smoothly and patients get what they need, when they need it.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Answering incoming calls from NHS hospitals and healthcare sites.
- Logging job details into our system and assessing urgency.
- Dispatching jobs to drivers across the South East using our tracking & routing software.
- Monitoring job progress and reacting quickly to delays, traffic, or issues.
- Participating in the out-of-hours on-call rota to maintain emergency response coverage.
- Coordinating with senior on-call managers when needed for escalations.
- Keeping accurate handover notes and supporting the wider ops team.
What We’re Looking For
- Location Requirement: You must live within a 30-minute drive of our office in Worthing, West Sussex to meet our strict SLA response times during on-call duties.
- Driving Licence: Full Manual UK Driving Licence required, as on-call duties may involve driving to site or responding directly to hospitals.
- Someone with a great telephone manner who can stay calm under pressure.
- Strong multi-tasker who enjoys solving problems and thinking on their feet.
- Experience in logistics, dispatch, NHS call handling, customer service or similar is ideal, but full training will be given.
- Confident with basic tech (we’ll train you on our systems).
- Happy to work shifts, including weekends and on-call as part of a rota.
Shifts & Pay
- Full-time: 37.5 hours per week.
- Daily Shift Pattern: Standard 8.5-hour shifts (7.5 working hours + 1-hour unpaid lunch break).
- Roster Window: Shifts are scheduled on a rota between 08:00 and 21:00 (Mon-Fri) and 09:00-17:30 (Weekends/Bank Holidays).
- On-call: Out-of-hours coverage required as part of a rota (paid at enhanced rates).
- Salary: £25,500 - £30,000 depending on experience.
- Bonus scheme in place for hitting key SLA and performance targets.
Perks & Benefits
- 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for personal support and wellbeing.
- Free health cover with cashback on dental, optical, and GP appointments.
- Paid birthday leave
- Quarterly team bonus scheme.
- Supportive, down-to-earth team where your work really matters.
- Social team events
