We are looking for a commercially-minded Buyer with a passion for product and a strong understanding of trading. You'll be confident taking ownership of your categories, using data, market insight and customer understanding to develop commercially successful ranges that meet customer needs while delivering strong business performance.
You'll be skilled at building effective relationships with suppliers and stakeholders, working collaboratively across functions to make informed decisions that drive sales, margin and stock efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the commercial performance of assigned product categories, delivering sales, margin, stock and availability targets.
- Develop and implement commercially balanced product ranges that meet customer needs and business objectives.
- Analyse sales, stock and market data to identify opportunities, mitigate risks and maximise category performance.
- Work closely with Merchandising to manage forecasting, stock investment, intake, markdowns and Open to Buy (OTB).
- Lead product development from concept through to launch, ensuring products meet quality, cost and margin requirements.
- Drive innovation through trend analysis, competitor benchmarking and customer insight.
- Regularly review product performance, making recommendations to improve, extend or exit product ranges.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, ensuring high standards of quality, service and delivery.
- Negotiate commercial agreements with suppliers, including pricing, payment terms and product specifications.
- Own and manage the Critical Path for your categories, ensuring key milestones are achieved and products launch on time.
- Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Ecommerce, Supply Chain, Quality and Finance teams to support successful product launches and ongoing category performance.
- Support and develop junior team members, sharing knowledge, coaching colleagues and contributing positively to the wider Buying team.
About You:
- Previous experience working as a Buyer within a retail Buying function.
- Experience managing own categories with accountability for sales, margin and stock performance.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using WSSI, sales reporting and stock management tools.
- Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Highly competent in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent numerical and analytical ability.
- Able to prioritise effectively and manage multiple deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
- Experience attending overseas supplier meetings and international trade shows.
