Trainer / Assessor – Painting & Decorating and Plastering

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Trainer/Assessor to join our growing construction training team. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality training and assessment in Painting & Decorating and Plastering, supporting learners to gain industry-recognised qualifications and develop the practical skills required for employment within the construction sector.
The role involves classroom teaching, workshop-based practical instruction, workplace assessment, learner support and quality assurance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging classroom and practical training sessions.
- Teach learners safe working practices in accordance with current legislation.
- Demonstrate industry-standard plastering and painting techniques.
- Assess learners against qualification standards and awarding organisation requirements.
- Conduct workplace observations and professional discussions where appropriate.
- Support learners in completing portfolios of evidence.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans, schemes of work and learning materials.
- Monitor learner progress and provide regular feedback.
- Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Awarding Organisation, Ofsted, ESFA and funding requirements.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
- Participate in Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) and External Quality Assurance (EQA) activities.
- Maintain workshop equipment and ensure a safe learning environment.

Essential Requirements
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Painting & Decorating, Plastering or a related construction trade.
- Significant occupational experience within the construction industry.
- Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent).
- Assessor qualification (CAVA, A1, D32/D33 or equivalent), or willingness to achieve one.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and IT skills.
- Ability to motivate and support learners from diverse backgrounds.
Desirable Qualifications
- Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification.
- CSCS Gold Card or equivalent.
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Experience delivering Skills Bootcamps, Adult Skills Fund or funded provision.
- Experience delivering NOCN, GQA, City & Guilds, EAL or other accredited qualifications.
- Experience with workplace assessments and portfolio-based qualifications.
