This role is a full-time opportunity, flexible working patterns will be considered.
Band & Salary: Band 5 - £29,522.00 -£38,275 per annum depending on skills and experience.

About the team:
Engineering Services is a function within Route Services.¿ We sit as a central team to provide national skills and activities which enable regions and industry partners to deliver the railway for our customers.
As a large central functional team which focus on engineering delivery, we have many roles, ranging from pure engineering to project management. We design and influence every part of the railway, including structures, track, traction power, level crossings, signalling and accessibility schemes which are essential to keep our stations moving.¿
About the role:
As part of our engineering team, you'll support the development and delivery of level crossing design solutions across a range of projects. You'll help turn project requirements into practical engineering options, considering safety, reliability, operational performance, sustainability, whole-life cost and ease of construction.
You'll be involved in preparing level crossing design details, analysing engineering requirements, identifying and managing risks, and supporting the evaluation and selection of preferred solutions. Working closely with engineers, project teams and stakeholders, you'll ensure designs comply with relevant standards and industry requirements.
The role also includes undertaking technical investigations and on-site level crossing surveys, resolving infrastructure design issues, preparing engineering data and reports, responding to technical queries for new or modified systems. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to share your knowledge by assisting with the development and mentoring of junior engineers and trainees.

Who are we looking for?
Essential Criteria
Working towards an ONC/OND in a relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent qualification
IRSE Signalling Designer licence or equivalent for the Engineering discipline.
A demonstrable aptitude for option development.
Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
A working knowledge of rail engineering; relevant successful experience working in the principal discipline and an adequate understanding of all other related disciplines.
An ability to work and communicate effectively in a team context.
An appreciation of all the life cycle stages of rail infrastructure.
Construction Design Management (CDM), competence.
Risk assessment techniques
Desirable Criteria
An engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
Membership of a relevant engineering professional institution.
Experience in design, installation and maintenance.
Formal qualifications in risk identification and assessment.
Correlation qualification and experience

This role is not safety critical and but will require a Personal Track Safety Competence .
Personal Track Safety¿(PTS) is¿a set of safety regulations and procedures that individuals must adhere to when working on or near the tracks of the UK rail network.
Drugs and Alcohol Standard:
For some of our roles all prospective external candidates offered a conditional role will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your application will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced.
